Newton's Nook Designs Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

It's our 9th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentine's Day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on the hop today,  I created a trio of treat toppers to hold some yummy candy hearts!

Valentine Kitten Treat Toppers by Jennifer Jackson | Smitten Kittens Stamp Set, Love & Meows Paper Pad and Heart Frames Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

For these treat toppers I knew I wanted to feature our Smitten Kittens Stamp Set so I got out the stamp set, stamped a bunch of kittens and  colored them in a a variety of different fur colors. I used watercolor markers to color the images. Next, I cut the images out using the coordinating Smitten Kittens Die Set

I found some cellophane bags that fit my jelly candy hearts and then measured the width of the bags to decide how wide to make the treat toppers. In this case the bags are 3" wide so I made the toppers 3 1/4" wide by 2 3/4" tall but you could adjust the size to fit any treat bag you might have on hand. I started with a kraft colored cardstock base and then added pieces of patterned papers from our Love & Meows Paper Pad, adding two patterns across each topper. I then cut out the hearts using our Heart Frames Die Set. I chose a color for each heart that coordinated with the papers and kittens.  I used two sentiment from the
Smitten Kittens Stamp Set ("Smitten as a Kitten" and "You're the cat's Meow"). Then I added the sentiment "Be my MEOW-entine" from the Newton's Heart Stamp Set for the third treat topper.

Here are a few close-up photos so you can see the fun details:

I had so much fun making these and coloring the kittens in different colors! I hope you enjoyed this project today!  I'm sure these little treats will make someone smile!

Newton's Nook Designs Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

It's our 7th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on the hop today,  I wanted to make something fun chocolate holders featuring the cute rescue vehicles from from our new Love Emergency Stamp Set. This set includes a fire truck, ambulance and police car with puns that are perfect for Valentine's Day!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop! Valentine Treats by Jennifer Jackson | Love Emergency Stamp Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs

I started out by coloring the ambulance, fire truck and police car using copic markers. I then cut them out with the coordinating Love Emergency Die Set. I knew I wanted to use our Fancy Edges Tag Die Set to make treat holders so I cut out a tag for each vehicle. I decorated the tag to make it look like a street by adding a stripe of clouds using a piece of blue paper that was stenciled with our Cloudy Sky Stencil. Below the clouds I added a stripe of gray cardstock to look like a road. Then each tag was topped with a red scalloped edge. To create this I cut a border using one of the decorative border edges that is included in the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set

To make this tag into a treat holder I cut another white tag using the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set. Then I connected the decorated tag to the plain white one creating a hinge using a small piece of cardstock that was the same width (around 2 inches). I attached the hinge on the bottom to connect the two tags together and make a pocket. I placed the chocolates inside a little cello bag and adhered it inside the holder.

Here is a photo of the treat when you open it:

I also stamped the senimtments from the Love Emergency Stamp Set onto hearts that were cut out using the Heart Frames Die Set. I punched a hole in each heart and a black and white ribbon tied through both tags connects the tops together to hold it closed.

Newton's Nook Designs Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

It's our 6th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on the hop today,  I wanted to make something fun featuring the cute trucks from from our new Love Quarry Stamp Set. These trucks are so adorable and each one has a little heart on it somewhere or is carrying loads of hearts! Perfect for Valentine's Day!
Newton's Nook Designs Sweet Treats Blog Hop! Treat toppers by Jennifer Jackson using the Love Quarry Stamp Set, Speech Bubble Die Set and Land Borders Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I found some cute little heart gummy candies and added them to mini cellophane bags. I cut a piece of gray cardstock to 3 1/4 inches wide by 5 inches tall and scored it at 2 1/2"  on the long side to create a piece that would fold over the bag. I used our Land Borders Die Set to add hills to the toppers, using a green polka dot paper. Then I colored the trucks  from the Love Quarry Stamp Set with copic markers and cut them out using the Love Quarry Die Set.

On this topper I used the cement truck:

And on this one I used the truck digging up the load of hearts:

I added a sentiment to each one, embossing the sentiments with white embossing powder on black speech bubbles that were cut out using our Speech Bubbles Die Set. Across the bottom of each topper I added black striped washi tape. I wanted it to look like caution tape so I layered it over a strip of yellow paper so that the yellow could show through the parts of the washi that were transparent! The final touch is yellow twine tied around each one. I love how these turned out!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop

It's our 5th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on this hop I created a fun set of cute pockets to hold Pixy Stix:

Sweet Treats Blog Hop | Owl Pixy Stix Treat pockets by Jennifer Jackson | Love Owl-ways Stamp Set, Fancy Edges Tag Die Set and Tumbling Hearts Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade #valentine

I knew I wanted to make something fun featuring the cute owls from our new  Love Owl-ways Stamp Set. These owls are so cute for Valentines! I colored the images of the owl with the box of chocolates and the owl carrying a love letter with watercolors. Then I trimmed them out using the Love Owl-ways Die Set to add to my project.

Sweet Treats Blog Hop | Owl Pixy Stix Treat pockets by Jennifer Jackson | Love Owl-ways Stamp Set, Fancy Edges Tag Die Set and Tumbling Hearts Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade #valentine

To create the fun treat pockets I started with a piece of paper that was 8 1/2  inches tall by 3 inches wide. I scored and folded it to make into a fun pocket, leaving a tab on each side on the the bottom section to allow for a spot to glue the front to the back. I created two pockets like this. Then I used our Tumbling Hearts Stencil to decorate each one with hearts. On the kraft colored pocket I used dark brown ink and on the red colored pocket I used white ink.

I die cut a tag to add to each one using our Fancy Edges Tag Die Set. I also used the tiny scalloped border from the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set to add the white scalloped edges on the top of the pocket and on the back of the treat holder. I stamped sentiments onto the tags using our  Love Owl-ways Stamp Set and scored them so they wrapped around to the backside. I added some bakers twine to secure them in place. Then I added on the cute owls with some dimensional tape.

Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

It's our 4th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on this hop I created these fun treat holders:

Valentine Treat holders by Jennifer Jackson | Sending Hugs Stamp Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I used the tag die cut from the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set set along with the Sending Hugs Stamp Set and Sending Hugs Die Set create these holders.

Here's the pieces you need to create each treat holder:

Valentine Treat holders by Jennifer Jackson | Sending Hugs Stamp Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

You will need  two pink tags and then a piece of cardstock that is the same width as the tags (about 2 3/8") and about 2" tall. This piece will create a hinge at the bottom. Score the small piece 3/4" in from each end. You fold it up to create a U shape and add adhesive to each flap that is folded up and adhere it to the tag. You will can also cut a tag from pattern paper and one from white to decorate the front. I used the scallop edge mini border that is part of the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set to create those fun edges and layered them over the front of the treat holder. I stamped "Happy Valentine's Day" in the pink area at the bottom of the front from the Love Bites Stamp Set.

For the inside you can add any little treat. For mine I put some conversation hearts into a cello bag and adhered it to the back tag. Then I folded all up and add a ribbon to close it!

To decorate the front, I colored the cat and dog from the Sending Hugs Stamp Set and colored them with copic markers. I also colored an envelope and ice cream from this set. Then trimmed them all out using the coordinating Sending Hugs Die Set. This die is SO COOL because it cuts around the arms so you can insert all those cute little accessories inside them to hold!

I had so much fun playing with this set I decided to try another quick treat holder:

This time I colored the owl, bear and two hearts from the Sending Hugs Stamp Set with copic markers. I cut them out using the coordinating Sending Hugs Die Set and inserted the hearts into their arms. I created little treat toppers using a piece of red cardstock folded in half. On the front half I used the Sky Borders Die Set to create a fun scalloped bottom edge and then put the piece over a cellophane bag filled with candy hearts. I added the sentiments "love" and "hugs" from the Sending Hugs Stamp Set onto little kraft colored banners cut out using the banner shape from the Frames & Flags Die Set. These are so quick and easy to make and look adorable!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

Sweet Treats Blog Hop | Newton's Nook Designs

It's our 3rd Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on this hop I created these fun chocolate holders:
Sweet Treats Blog Hop | Zoo Chocolate Holders by Jennifer Jackson | Wild about Zoo stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook
These cute treat holders were created using the elephant and zebra from our Wild About Zoo stamp set! For the tags, I stamped the images onto watercolor paper with Ranger Archival black ink. I colored them using Zig Clean Color brush markers, keeping the colors simple gray and peach. Then I used a circle die to cut them out.

I also added a little die cut heart onto each tag. The xoxo and polkadot heart are from the Darling Duos stamp set. I cut them out using the small heart from the  Darling Hearts Die Set

Sweet Treats Blog Hop | Zoo Chocolate Holders by Jennifer Jackson | Wild about Zoo stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

The wrap that goes around the chocolates was created using purple and dark pink cardstock. Here's how to make the wrap:
  1. Cut a piece of cardstock to 8.25 inches long by 2.25 inches wide.
  2. Score the cardstock at 3.5 inches and 4.75 inches along the long side.
  3. Decorate the paper. I stamped various hearts over the paper using hearts from the Darling Duos stamp set and the Wild About Zoo stamp set (the hearts in these two sets are the same size so they coordinate perfectly!).
  4. Add the chocolate into the center, between the score lines. I adhered the chocolates together with glue dots and attached them to the bottom of the holder.
  5. Fold it up into a triangle shape and punch a hole through both layers. Use twine or ribbon to tie it all up!

The chocolates I used were just a little over an inch wide so if you find some that are the same size, you could use the same measurements I did, otherwise you might need to adjust if your chocolates are larger. By the way, I found those adorable chocolates with the animal print labels at the dollar store. Don't they look perfect with our Wild About Zoo stamp set?

Hope you enjoyed this project. The next stop on the hop is Amanda Bodine! Make sure you hop through all the blogs below and comment for a change to win :)

Second Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!

The Newton's Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats - just in time for Valentines day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!

For my stop on this hop I created  a couple of fun projects - First up is a fun set of candy boxes:

Valentine Mini Treat boxes by Jennifer Jackson | Hoppy Days stamps by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

These little clear square boxes came with washi tape inside and I thought they were so adorable I should save them - Sometimes being a crafty hoarder comes in handy - they work perfectly for these Valentine treats!  I used our Tags Times Two die set to cut out some white tags and then I stamped the frog and grasshopper from the Jolly Tags stamp set on them. I colored them with copic markers and then added them to the boxes with some twine. I also added a strip of washi tape along the top edges of the boxes!

Love Owl-ways Valentine Treat bag by Jennifer Jackson | Sweetheart Tails stamps by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

For the second project today I created this adorable little Valentine treat bag! I stamped the owl from our Sweetheart Tails stamp set and colored it with copics and fussy cut it out. I cut out the large heart using the Darling Hearts die set with the black and white paper and with red. I then cut out a smaller heart in the corner of the patterned piece so the red behind would show through. I stamped the "Love OWL-ways" sentiment and embossed it in white on black cardstock. I just LOVE how this turned out!

These are really easy to make:
  1. Start with a piece of cardstock that is 3" x 6 1/4"
  2. Score in 2 3/4" from the each edge on the long side
  3. Use a corner rounder to round the corners
  4. Decorate as you like (I added a little tag too)
  5. Add in chocolates with strong tape to the inside. I used Ghirardelli minis in mine.
  6. Use ribbon or twine to close the folder
