Coordinating Baby Gift Projects by August Guest Designer Angie Cimbalo

Hello and welcome, it's Angie Cimbalo here and I have my last August guest design post for you.
It has been a fun month for me and such an honor to guest design for Newton's Nook!
Today I use some Newton's Nook - cute as ever baby stamps and dies - to make a set of coordinating crafty items that I needed for an upcoming baby shower.

I'm guessing you can tell this is for a baby girl, since there is soooo much pink!

The four projects for today are:
  1. "Welcome baby" decorated gift bag
  2. Baby gift wrapped in pink stenciled paper
  3. "Welcome baby" tag
  4. "Welcome baby" card

First up is the gift bag:

I stamped, heat embossed, cut and colored three onesies from the Loveable Laundry stamp set and a wreath from Happy Little Thoughts to use for my sentiment. The sentiment is from the onesie set and all images were colored with pastel Spectrum Noir markers. The bag was just a plain pink gift bag that I bought to decorate. I've attached the three colored onesies to some twine with tiny clothes pins and added glitter tissue paper inside the bag (along with the gift) and some pink curling ribbon to the handles.

Next up is the gift wrapped in stenciled paper with the attached tag:

I really wanted everything to coordinate so I took some plain white wrapping paper and cut the size I needed to wrap the gift. Next I used Simon Says Ink's "Hollyhock" ink, a blender brush, and the Gingham Stencil from Newton's Nook to create my own wrapping paper to match. The tag on the present was cut with a tag die, covered in a vellum paper from Creative Devotion, and decorated with another onesie and wreath with the sentiment inside. The tag and gift also have pink curling ribbon on them to finish them off.

And last but not least is the card I made to go along with the gifts.

The top white panel was stenciled with the same ink and stencil as the wrapping paper, then cut with a rectangle die and matted on a black panel. Next, I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black card stock and cut it into a strip. I added tiny hearts to some of the squares of the gingham pattern, and one to the sentiment strip, then popped up the sentiment strip on foam tape. The hearts were made with a tiny heart punch I have in my stash. I added the stenciled panel to the card base then added the sweet heart-filled onesie stamped image next to the sentiment.

Here's another look at the baby card:

And there you have it, a matching group of projects all made with the same stamps, dies and stencils from Newton's Nook! I am ready for the baby shower!

I want to extend a huge thank-you to Jennifer and Samantha for inviting me to guest design this month. It has been a lot of fun and an honor to get to share some of my projects made with Newton's Nook products with all of you!

Stay safe and have a wonderful September!

Slimline Critter Cards with Matching Envelopes by August Guest Designer Angie Cimbalo

Today we are thrilled to introduce our August Guest Designer, Angie Cimbalo! You are going to love Angies beautiful cards this month. We fell in love with her fun and creative layouts and beautiful color combos over on instagram and can't wait to share what she creates using our products this month!  Keep reading to find out more about her today and to check out her first project below. Then, check back each Monday to see her projects!
Hello everyone, I am so thrilled and honored to be guest designing in August for Newton’s Nook!

My name is Angie Cimbalo and I’m a semi-retired music teacher living in Texas. I live with my sweet hubby Phil, and Zoe, my adorable Goldendoodle “that didn’t doodle!” She was the runt of her litter and now, at 2 1/2 years old, still looks like a mini Golden Retriever puppy. Zoe is my full-time crafty buddy! When I’m not crafting, I’m having tons of fun helping music students and their directors in schools in the area. My husband and I have 4 adult children, 5 grandchildren with 1 more on the way.

I’ve always enjoyed crafting but a few years ago, I discovered paper crafting and card making, and was immediately hooked. I often create clean and simple designs but I also love trying new techniques and learning from the many talented and kind artists in the paper crafting world. Please visit me on Instagram (@macimbalo), my blog Cimbacreativefun, and my new YouTube channel where I have just started making videos.

Many thanks to Samantha and Jennifer for inviting me to guest design this month with Newton’s Nook! I look forward to sharing my projects with you!

I am so excited to be here guest designing and showcasing Newton's Nook Designs for the month of August, thanks so much to Jennifer and Samantha for inviting me. When I first started card making a few years ago, Newton's Nook Designs were some of the very first stamps I ever purchased!

Slimline Cat Birthday Card by August Guest Designer Angie Cimbalo | Newton's Birthday Trio, Newton's Birthday Flutter and Newton Dreams of Italy Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
For my first post of the month, I have some cards for you today with ideas on how to stretch your stamps and dies to use them in creating the all popular slimline card design. Slimlines are all the rage right now and it's fun to discover how to use stamps in new ways to fill up all that extra space you have with the longer card design. I also made envelopes to match for these slimline cards. Here's a closer look of my first card with the matching envelope.

Both card bases are a 8 5/8" by 7 1/4" cut piece of card stock, scored at 3 5/8", and folded in half.

For my first card I decided I wanted a lot of birthday celebrating cats to put across the length of the slimline card. The three cats in the center and the sentiment are from the Newtons' Birthday Trio Stamp Set. The cat and duck on the left along with the bird and frog on the right are from Newton's Birthday Flutter Stamp Set, and the cat on the farthest right is from Newton Dreams of Italy Stamp Set. All were stamped in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and heat embossed in clear embossing powder.

After stamping the images, I colored them with a mixture of Spectrum Noir, Copic, and Altenew alcohol markers along with Prismacolor Pencils. Next I cut them out, and played with them until I found a layout I liked. I like the images against the white background for a clean and simple look, but decided to make an ink blended background instead.

For my background I used 7 Distress Oxide Inks blended with blender brushes: "Squeezed Lemonade", "Mustard Seed", "Cracked Pistachio", "Tumbled Glass", "Broken China", "Pine Needles" and "Mermaid Lagoon". I added some water splatters because I love how these inks react with water. Once the background dried, I adhered all my fun sweet kitties and critters to the card, and then attached the background panel to my slimline card base.

And there you have it, a big birthday bash on a slimline card!

I have dimensions for making a slimline envelope from one piece of 8.5 X 11" paper or card stock on my instagram page HERE. The envelope for my first card was ink blended with the same colors as the card background.

Here's my second card along with the matching envelope I made stenciled with Newton's Nook Gingham Stencil using "Chipped Sapphire" Distress Oxide ink.

Slimline Snowman Card by August Guest Designer Angie Cimbalo | Frozen Fellowship Stamp Set, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set and Gingham Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I wanted to use the large snowman stamp from the Frozen Fellowship Stamp Set and spread them out horizontally on my slimline card. So I stamped it two times on white card stock and cut out long sections of it from left to right to use in my layout. I colored the snowmen with the same alcohol markers and colored pencils as my first card and played around with the layout until I was happy with it. Before adhering them to my night sky panel, I colored the edges of each cut out with a black marker.

The night sky background panel was made with Distress Oxide inks, direct to paper. I used "Wilted Violet" and "Chipped Sapphire", and dried it with my heat tool in between each layer of ink. The sentiment is from Happy Little Thoughts and is stamped with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder and then cut with circle die.

The tree die cuts are from the Forest Scene Builder Die Set and I cut them a little shorter to tuck them behind the snowmen arrangement.

I added some fun accents with a white gel pen on some scarfs, hats and vests, and added some snowflake sequins, and lots of tiny Nuvo Silver Moon Dust drops in the snowflake centers and around the night sky. Here's one last look at my card:

I hope you enjoyed my slimline cards and will experiment with your stamps and dies to create longer card designs. It's a lot of fun to play with layouts in this way. I'll be back next Monday with more creations and again I'd like to thank Jennifer and Samantha for allowing me to guest design with Newton's Nook this month!

Floral Wreath Card by Larissa Heskett

Floral Wreath Card by Larissa Heskett | Little Lilies, Lovely Blooms, and Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Lily Wreath

Happy Friday! Today we are sharing a gorgeous floral wreath card by Larissa! She created this beautiful card by stamping and coloring the lily of the valley image from our Little Lilies Stamp Set three times and cutting it out with the coordinating Little Lilies Die Set. She arranged the three die cuts in a circle and layered over them in some of the little blooms from the Little Lilies Stamp Set along with some blooms and leaves from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. Doesn't it look so beautiful!? What a perfect combination of flowers! For her card base she used our Bubbly Stencil to create a soft background of bubbles with distress inks and added some black splatters and Nuvo drops too! She finished off the card with the "Lovely, Amazing, You" sentiment from our Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set.

Thank you,  Larissa, for the stunning creation today! To say hello to Larissa and see more of her creations, visit her over at her blog, Larissa Heskett Designs.

Layton's Legacy Blog Hop

Today we are hopping along with Lea Lawson for a blog hop and fundraiser and card drive for NICU parents! Lea has organized this event to help parents in NICU after spending time there herself with her son, Layton Caleb, who is the namesake for this event.

In addition to this blog hop, You can read more about her story and ways you can help on the  Card Drive and Fundraising post on her blog.

Here is the mood board for the event:

I was so inspired by this sweet woodland theme I created two cards for this hop:
Layton's Legacy Blog Hop | Deer Card by Jennifer Jackson | Deer Friend and Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
For the first card used our Deer Friend Stamp Set and colored two of the sweet little fawns using Derwent watercolor pencils and a water brush. I then cut them out using the coordinating Deer Friend Die Set to layer them onto the card. For the card base I cut out the white scallop edge panel using our Frames & Flags Die Set. Then I layered the blue sky and grey hills over the top, cutting the hills out wiht our Land Borders Die Set

Layton's Legacy Blog Hop | Deer Card by Jennifer Jackson | Deer Friend and Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Then I layered the sweet fawns over the top with some dimensional tape. Since this card is supposed to feel uplifting for the parents, I also added the sentiment "Think Happy Thoughts" from our Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set.

Layton's Legacy Blog Hop | Umbrella Card by Jennifer Jackson | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Cloudy Sky Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
For my second card I used our new Umbrella Pals Stamp Set. I thought the bear and raccoon umbrella would go perfectly with the woodland theme! I stamped them and colored them with zig watercolor brush markers and gave the umbrella handles a bright yellow accent. I cut them out using the coordinating Umbrella Pals Die Set to layer them onto the card.
Layton's Legacy Blog Hop | Umbrella Card by Jennifer Jackson | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Cloudy Sky Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
To create the sky I used our Cloudy Sky Stencil with white embossing paste to create some textured clouds in the sky. Then I inked over it with blue ink and wiped the ink off from the clouds.  I also cut a panel of white with a cloudy edge for the bottom using our Sky Borders Die Set. This was the perfect place to add the "share my umbrella" sentiment from the Umbrella Pals Stamp Set.
