Newton's Nook Designs 7 YEAR Celebration Blog Hop!

Newton’s Nook Designs is so excited to be celebrating our SEVEN Year Anniversary
- WOW - That's seven years of getting our
paws inky!

We want to take a moment and say that we are so THANKFUL for all of you, our amazing fans and customers! Your enthusiasm for our products and support of our small business has really been the silver lining in what was otherwise a very challenging year! We really appreciate every order and are so happy that we are able to continue to run our small business from our home with everything going on in the world! If you didn't receive our email this morning you can read our letter about the last year here
Newton's Nook Designs 7 YEAR Celebration Blog Hop | Photos of Cards, Jen, Jeff, and the kittens
To celebrate, we have a big blog hop today! Make sure to scroll down to the end of the post to see the hop link list and leave them some sweet comments for a chance to win prizes (details at the end of this post).

Every stop on the hop is sharing cards made with our products and I made a card to share today too! For my card I created a slimline card featuring all the kitties!

Newton's Nook Designs 7 YEAR Celebration Blog Hop! Slimline Cat card by Jennifer Jackson | Newton Loves Boxes Stamp Set, Newton's Antics Stamp Set, Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set, Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set and Pawprints Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
In the center of the card I stamped the two kittens in a box from our Newton Loves Boxes Stamp Set, coloring them to look like our NEW kittens, Marlowe and Toulouse! The darker brownish gray kitty on the left is Marlowe and lighter pale gray is Toulouse!  Both of our new kittens have distinctive "M" markings on their foreheads so I tried to add that on as well. I'm not very skilled at coloring gray kitties yet but I'm sure I will do much more practicing in the future!

I also wanted to add on the kitties we lost during this last year so I included an orange kitty on the left to represent Newton and colored the one on the right to look a bit like Hobbes! For Newton I used one of our very first Stamp Sets, Newton's Antics. I will always continue to color orange kitties like Newton, since even though he as passed he was a special kitty and remains our company namesake!

The kitty images were cut out using the coordinating Newton's Antics Die Set and Newton Loves Boxes Die Set.

For the slimline card I used an 8.5" x 3.5" card base from Kraft colored cardstock. Then I used our new Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to cut out the white scalloped border. The square frame with the three windows was cut out using the Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set in lime green. I also used the same die set to cut out the inner squares. I cut a set from yellow and a set from a strip white of paper that I had stenciled colored paw prints onto using our Pawprints Stencil. I arranged the kitties over the three windows and added the sentiment "You're the Best!" from our Thankful Thoughts Stamp Set onto a banner, also cut out using the Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set. I thought that sentiment was fitting because we DO have the BEST FANS!

A Rainbow Thank You Cards and a Fond Farewell to Nakaba Rager

Saying Thank you & Farewell to Naki!

Today we are sharing a duo of rainbow thank you cards by Naki. She created these simple yet beautiful cards by mixing sentiments from our Thankful Thoughts Stamp Set, stamped in rainbows and metallics! For the long card she also used our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to add the scalloped die cut panel and on the square card she used our Frames Squared Die Set to add the square scalloped panel. Both cards were finished with colorful sequin accents! These cards are so simple and yet have so much fun and character!

I am sad to say that this project marks the LAST post for Naki Rager as part of our Design Team at Newton's Nook Designs! We have truly enjoyed having Naki on our Team for FOUR incredible years! Naki has wowed us consistently with her amazing no-line coloring skills and use of soft watercoloring mixed with metallics! Her cards are always so unique and we truly loved seeing them each month! Plus, she is just the sweetest person ever and we have truly enjoyed her friendship!  We will always consider her part of our NND family! We are so sad to see her go but we feel lucky to have had her hang out with us for so long! We wish her the very best as she takes a break. You will want to keep her blog, Notes from Naki, bookmarked so you can go back to see everything she has created and check for updates!

I thought it would be fun to re-share a few of our favorite cards by Naki (although it was so hard to choose just a few):
Isn't it cool how Naki colored the kitties from our Newton's Movie Night Stamp Set in just black and white!? She also used our Popcorn Stencil on this card. You can find this card originally posted here

This card is one of my favorites showcasing Naki's no-line coloring! So beautiful! She used our Naughty Newton Stamp Set on this along with a sentiment from our Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set. This card was first posted here
This card was PURRfect for when everyone was searching the stores for toilet paper this year! Again, she used our Naughty Newton Stamp Set, adding in letters using our Essential Alphabet Die Set and textured loops in the background using our Confetti Stencil. Her card was first posted here.

This card totally made us smile! She created a custom pun on the Doctor Who TV Series, using our Essential Alphabet Die Set for the letters, our Woof Pack Stamp Set for the big crowd of dogs and 3D glasses too! Details on this card are at this post
This card expresses how we will feel about Naki and her clever and sweet cards! We love how she colored those kittes from our Newton Loves Boxes Stamp Set and that rainbow heart background is stunning! Find details on the original post here

Thank you so much, Naki, for the awesome inspiration! We'll miss you! If you would like to continue to follow Naki you can find her at her blog, Notes from Naki!

Sunflowers are one of the most beautiful Fall flowers and this card by Larissa showcases them perfectly! In the center she added the custom sentiment "thankful for everything" by combining words from our Thankful Thoughts Stamp Set. She added a black scalloped edge using our Frames & Flags Die Set.

This week Newton's Nook Designs and Therm O Web are partnering for a fabulous inspiration week! All week long both design teams will be sharing ways to add fun foils and more to your cards using Therm O Web products with Newton's Nook Designs stamps! There are prizes too! Read all the way to the end of this post to find out how you can win!

Today we are featuring projects by Larissa and Ellen

First up we have a spooky Halloween card by Larissa
Newton's Nook Designs & Therm O Web Inspiration Week - Ghost Halloween card by Larissa Heskett | Ghosts Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs | Flock Transer Sheets by Therm O Web #newtonsnook #thermoweb
Larissa created this fun ghostly background using our Ghosts Stencil with Deco Foil Transfer Gel from Therm O Web.  Once the gel was dry, she added the flock using Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets in Black Velvet from Therm O Web with a laminator. The flock creates a soft fuzzy texture on all those spooky ghosts! She also used our  Framework Die Set to create the orange postage edged frame for the ghosts.

For the ghost in the circle,  she masked off one ghost from our Ghosts Stencil and used a combination of  Glitz Glitter Gel in White and Metallix Gel in White Pearl to create a custom sparkly gel. Isn't the ghost so cute popping out of the sentiment? The "good vibes" sentiment is from our Tropical Fringe Stamp Set and was embossed using glow-in-the-dark embossing powder. The circle was mounted onto a stitched circle that was cut out using the Frames Squared Die Set.

Here is a photo of the how the sentiment looks in the dark:

Sweater Thank you Card by Jennifer Jackson

Sweater Thank you Card by Jennifer Jackson | Sweater Weather Stamp Set and Argyle Stencil Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Sweater Thank You!

Hello! Jen here with a fun sweater themed thank you card! Last week it was REALLY cold in Wisconsin! It got down to -35 degrees on one of the days! It's warmer this week but I'm still in the mood for sweaters so when I needed a thank you I pulled out our cute Sweater Weather Stamp Set and Argyle Stencil Set. I've been wanting to pair these two products together and I love how this card turned out.

I started by creating the argyle background using our Argyle Stencil Set on a piece of kraft colored cardstock. I make the diamonds green with green distress oxide ink. Then I used white embossing paste for the stitching layer. But since I didn't wait for the green to completely dry the white paste picked up some of the green color. Even though I didn't do that on purpose I love how it looks!

Sweater Thank you Card by Jennifer Jackson | Sweater Weather Stamp Set and Argyle Stencil Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Then I colored the kitty wearing a sweater from our  Sweater Weather Stamp Set with bright watercolor brush markers. Then I cut the image out using the coordinating Sweather Weather Die Set. I added the kitty to the card, layering it over a white circle. For the sentiment I chose the "many thanks" from the Thankful Thoughts Stamp Set and embossed it with white embossing powder onto a black flag that was cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set

I hope you enjoyed this project today and are staying warm!

No Whining – Just Good Wine Here Cards by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski

Hi there! It’s Bobbi Lemanski, the October guest designer for Newton’s Nook. Today, I’m sharing some cards using the stamp set, Wine A Little along with a few other sets. You certainly won’t hear any whining from me, because I loved working with this flavorful wine set!
An Aging Wine is a Fine Wine!

Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Beautiful Leaves Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 1: Card features Wine a Little and Beautiful Leaves stamp sets and dies.

My first card pairs Wine a Little (and dies) and Beautiful Leaves (and dies) stamps sets together. Using purples, pinks and reds, I watercolored the background on Canson XL watercolor paper, mimicking the look of spilled wine. The leaves and wine images were colored using Copic Markers in colors that “age” the look of the bottles and their labels.

Figure 2: A watercolor background mimics the look of spilled wine.

This card has an amazing color vibrancy from the watercolors that contrasts well with the gray-tones of the leaves. No perfection needed here…. spilled wine is good wine in this case!

Book Club Gal Pals

Book Club Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Classy Teachers Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 1: An oversized wine bottle, glass and cork makes fun of the amount of wine consumed at book club.

When I hear wine, I immediately think of my book club gals in my town. These amazing ladies love reading lots of books and drinking fine wine while we discuss each book. This card was completely inspired by them. The phrase from the set was perfect for this idea.

Book Club Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Classy Teachers Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 2: Combining two sets can create humorous and unique card ideas.

I used the lovely ladies in Classy Teachers and Holding Happiness to represent the book club gals. With a few minor modifications to the cake lady (in HH), I was able to create a gal holding a tray of books to go with the two gals from Classy Teachers. I created room for them to gather in using a few lines and a ruler.

Figure 3: Personalize your message with a white gel pen on a black chalkboard.

I love the idea of personalizing the chalkboard with any message. Think of all the things you can do with Classy Teachers! Even if your handwriting is less than perfect, don’t worry. A chalkboard is meant to be a little messy and imperfect (look at mine!)

Wine a Lot… Like a Million, Billion, Zillion!

Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Thankful Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 2: Alcohol Inks on a transparency sheet create an artistic window.

My next card combines Wine a Little stamp set and dies with the Thankful Thoughts phrase set. One of the phrases in the set says, Thanks a million, billion…etc. I loved the idea of showing lots of gratitude not only in the words, but in the images (as you will see in the inside), too.

Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Thankful Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 3 Wine a Little  stamps and dies were used to embellish the front.

I also used “You’re the best!” from Thankful Thoughts and “Here’s to you!” from Cocktail Mixer. Sequins accented the images from Wine a Little on the front.
Wine Card by October Guest Designer Bobbi Lemanski | Wine A Little and Thankful Thoughts Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Figure 4 Stacks of wine bottles visually portray the huge amounts of gratitude expressed in words.

I wanted to portray the huge amount of gratitude in the images to match the phrase, so I stacked the wine bottles up to create a wall of bottles in the inside that could show through the window.

The window is covered with an alcohol-inked transparency sheet I created. I find working with alcohol inks to be fascinating. I love how the red and pink inks mixed and blended on this one. I also used Alcohol Lift Ink from Ranger to remove the ink to match the design underneath. By placing the transparency sheet over the cardstock (I put the cardstock piece in a bag to protect it), I matched the bottles and lifted the ink.  You can see it here in this photo with the light capturing the lifted design. It allowed the images stamped in the inside of the card to really show through from the front.

I’ll have another set of cards to share next week. I raise my wine glass to Newton’s Nook for these great sets and to you, for joining me today!
