In This Together Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove

Today we have our first post by our April Guest Designer, Jennifer Hartsgrove! Jennifer caught our eye with her adorable creations on Instagram and we are thrilled to have her as a guest this month! We can't wait to to see what she creates! We hope you will enjoy seeing her new creations on our blog each Monday this month! Keep reading to find out more about her today and to check out her first project below!

Hi Krafty Friends, I'm Jen from Katahdin Krafts. My krafty korner of the world is in northern Maine, where I live with my very tolerant husband, three active homeschooled children, two naughty dogs, two spit fire cats and a very stubborn house pig! So I officially reside in a funny farm! My passion for art and crafting began at a young age and led me to earn my BFA. I concentrated in photography which was an easy stepping stone into paper crafting. I am honored to have the opportunity to be a guest designer for Newton's Nook Designs for the month of April. What a great opportunity from a fabulous company, thank you so much for having me!

Blog: Katahdinkrafts.com
Instagram: @katahdinkrafts
Facebook: Katahdin Krafts
Hello Krafty Friends, Jen here from Katahdin Krafts. I have the honor of being April’s Guest Designer for Newton’s Nook Designs! I have been a Newton’s fan for quite sometime, often working with their products.

For this project I was inspired by our global events and wanted to showcase unity for our hurting world. What better way then Newton’s Dreams of Traveling Stamp Sets! We truly are all in this together, whether we are on the front lines, staying home, or delivering lunches, we are all trying our best. I’ve often stated how crafting is my therapy, well we all need some sort of mental outlet now, stay healthy everyone.

On this card I used the Netwon Dreams of Italy, Newton Dreams of Paris, Newton Dreams of New York, and Newton Dreams of London stamp sets. I stamped them out using copic friendly ink. Then colored them with the following color palette:
  • Newton’s Fur – Y35, Y38, YR15 and YR16. His ears are R20.
  • London Newton – B24, B28, and R27.
  • Paris Newton – B24, B28, R14, R17, R27, T0, and T1.
  • NYC Newton – R14, R17, T0, and T1.
  • Italy Newton – G3, G5, R14, R27, C00, and C1.
  • Empire State Building – N0, N2, and N4.
  • Big Ben – E51, E53, E55, and E57.
  • Brooklyn Bridge – N2, N4, and N5.
  • Leaning Tower of Pisa – W1, W3, and W4.
  • Eiffel Tower – C1, C3, C5, E31, and E34.
  • Cloud – C00, C0, and C1.

Next, I used Lawn Fawn’s Foursquare Backdrop to cut a panel for my card. I then inked up the four sections with Distress Oxide Inks. For the sky I used Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac and Tattered Rose. Then I used Mowed Lawn for the grass.

I then used the Newton’s Nook Designs Clouds Stencil to add some interest in the sky areas.

For my card base I cut a piece of Chili Red Classic Cardstock to 8.5″ x 5.5″ and scored it at the 4.24″ mark line, to create an A2 sized card. I used a liquid glue to adhere the frame from the backdrop die to the card base, and popped the inked sections back in place.

Then it was time to assemble my card, I really love how it turned out! I had this concept in mind for a couple of weeks, and it was exciting to see it come to life.

I've also created a video showing you how I created this card:

Don't forget to subscribe to the Newton's Nook Designs YouTube Channel to see more great videos!

Thanks again to Newton’s Nook Designs for this awesome opportunity!

Until we meet again Krafty Friends, stay safe and keep krafting!

Happy Birthday Old Chap Card by Andrea Shell

Happy Birthday Old Chap Card by Andrea Shell | Newton Dreams of London Stamp Set, Cloudy Sky Stencil, and Hills & Grass Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Happy Birthday, Old Chap!

Today we are sharing a charming English-themed birthday card by Andrea! She features the cute kitty wearing a Welsh Guard costume standing in front of some London landmarks from our Newton Dreams of London Stamp Set. She colors the images and uses the coordinating Newton Dreams of London Die Set to cut them out. For the scene, she uses our Hills & Grass Stencil for the hill and adds clouds into the sky with our Cloudy Sky Stencil and some white texture paste.

She layers the scene over a background that was created by stamping a bunch of the smaller images to create a fun themed pattern. The sentiment "Happy Birthday, Old Chap" is also from the Newton Dreams of London Stamp Set. She embossed the sentiment in white onto a banner that was cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set.

Check out the close-up photo below to see all the details. She even added flocking to the hat on the kitty to give it a fun fuzzy texture. What a cool idea! To see more details on how this is done, you can head over to Andrea's blog today.

Wow! The first week of 2018 has totally flown by! Can you believe it's Friday already!? Speaking of flying by, today we have an adorable card by Naki that fits that theme! She used that cute kitty floating in the sky with an umbrella from our Newton Dreams of London Stamp Set. Interactive Card by September Guest Designer Ellen Hax

Hello! It's Monday and that means it's time for a post from this month's guest!! YAY! This month it's me, Ellen, and I like to share a little coloring tip and a flip card.

It seems a lot people like how I color the cat stamps, because I get a lot of sweet comments from all of you! That's why I like to share where I got my inspiration for these kittens (stamp sets "Aloha Newton" and "Newton Dreams of London").

As you can see, the coloring is inspired by pictures found on Google. Do you see the similarities? To give the cats fur I use the flicking technique. With this technique you draw a little line upwards from the edges to the inside of the stamp with brush point of your marker. For animals it's important to try to follow the form of the body with your markers. This ensures that the animals will appear more vibrant and fuller.
Interactive Kitty Sun or Rain card by Guest Designer Ellen Hax | Cat Stamps by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

I created a little summer and rain scene with both cats. The word 'or' on the first page was stamped with the word 'more' from a sentiment from the "Newton's Naptime" stamp set. On the inside I used a sentiment from the "Newton Unwinds" stamp set.
