Always Paws for a Good Book Card by Samantha Mann

Always Paws for a Good Book Card by Samantha Mann | Newton's Book Club Stamp Set, All Booked Up Stamp Set, and Speech Bubbles Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Cats + Books = A Good Day!

What makes a day better than cats & books? Today Samantha is featuring both on her adorable card!

For this card she combines two of our favorite book and cat themed sets, Newton's Book Club Stamp Set and All Booked Up Stamp Set. She stamped the kitties on perched on stacks of books from each set and colored the books in a rainbow of bright colors! She used the coordinating Newton's Book Club Die Set and All Booked Up Die Set to cut the images out. She also included a pair of glasses from the All Booked Up Stamp Set, colored in purple. So cute!

For her sentiment she used a speech bubble that was cut out from black cardstock using our Speech Bubbles Die Set. She stamped the sentiment from the All Booked Up Stamp Set, stamping it twice so she could accent the word "paws" with a pink pop up!

Then it was all layered over a dotted background created from wide washi tape. So adorable!

Bookmark and Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen

Hi crafty friends! Peggy here with a new card for my month as a guest designer at Newton's Nook Designs and today I'm showing you some inspiration with the lovely Newton's Book Club Stamp Set! As you may have read in my bio I am also a book-lover. Of course this set appealed to me big time!

Bookmark and Card by January Guest Designer Peggy Emmerink-Moonen | Newton's Book Club Stamp Set by Newton's Nook designs #newtonsnook

I love making bookmarks, but had seen an idea somewhere integrating it on a card. This would be awesome to give someone when gifting them a book or just as a card in the mail for a bookish friend. But I still wanted the card to look cute on display, even after removing the bookmark. I started out by creating some masks from three of the stamps from the Newton's Book Club Stamp Set. Next, I cut a card base and a slightly smaller panel to layer on top from some white cardstock. You can use any dies you have to create a rectangle. It doesn't need to be this rounded edges one I used.

A fun trick you can do to stretch your supplies is the one I used to create this bookmark. I took the smaller rectangle from my die set, ran it through my die cutting machine once for the full panel and then again offsetting the panel on the die, to make the panel approximately the width of a bookmark.I used a simple hole punch to make a hole for my ribbon at the top.

I secured the panels in my stamp positioner. This way I was able to stamp the kitty and sentiment where I wanted them in the same position on both panels. Once they were stamped I placed the masks over top and used a large text stamp to stamp around the images. I removed the masks and colored the images with my alcohol markers (Kitty is in Copic cool greys, books in various colors, send me a message if you are curious about a color number).

I blended a background on my card base through a stencil using Distress Oxide Candied Apple and Aged Mahogany. The top panel and the bookmark I made to look old using Tea Dye Distress Ink. I finished the images using some white gel pen and glossy accents. Next I put everything together attaching the bookmark with a removable glue dot. Happy crafting and happy reading!

Long distance hugs,

- Peggy

Teacher Thank You Card by Samantha Mann

Teacher Thank You Card by Samantha Mann | Newton Dreams of New York Stamp Set, Newton's Book Club Stamp Set, Classy Teachers Stamp Set and Cascading Stars Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

A Great Card for a Great Teacher!

Do you need a cute idea for a fun thank you card for your teachers? This amazing card by Samantha would be perfect for letting them know how much they are appreciated! To create this card, Samantha combined the kitty with the apple from our Newton Dreams of New York Stamp Set (retiring) with the kitty on the stack of books from our Newton's Book Club Stamp Set. These two images work purr-fectly together for a fun school themed image! She colored those kitties using bright watercolors and fussy cut them out by hand. So incredible!

For her card base, she masked off the top half of her card and inked it up using distress inks. Then she stenciled stars over it using our Cascading Stars Stencil with white texture paste. She added the sentiment from our  Classy Teachers Stamp Set, embossing it in white onto a strip of black cardstock.

Here is a close up so you can see all the amazing details:

Graduation Card by Jennifer Jackson

Cat themed Graduation Card by Jennifer Jackson | Newton's Graduation and Newton's Book Club Stamp Set, Frames & Flags and Framework Die Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

A Kitty Themed Graduation!

Hello! Jen here today with a fun graduation card! For this card I combined two of our kitty sets. First, I used the image of the kitty with the graduation cap and scroll from our Newton's Graduation Stamp Set. Next, I added the image of the kitty on a stack of books from our Newton's Book Club. I thought these two images paired perfectly for a graduate who loves to read! I colored both images with zig clean color watercolor markers and then cut them out using their coordinating Newton's Graduation Die Set and Newton's Book Club Die Set

For the card base, I kept it simple and focused on the school colors of navy and yellow. I cut out a yellow scalloped panel using our Framework Die Set. Then I added the word "yay" from our Birthday Essentials. embossed in white onto a banner that was cut out of silver cardstock using our Frames & Flags Die Set. I then added the kitties around the banner and finished it off with the "Edu-CAT-ed" sentiment from the Newton's Graduation Stamp Set. I simply layered this over a navy panel and gray cardstock base.

I think this sunny and cheerful card would be perfect to let a graduate know how happy you are for them and their accomplishment!

I hope you enjoyed this card today! Thanks for stopping by!

Relax, Read, Repeat Card by Amanda Wilcox | Newton's Book Club Stamp Set, Frames & Flags Die Set and Gingham Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Relax, Read, Repeat!

Today we are sharing a sweet kitty card by Amanda that is perfect for sending to a friend who enjoys reading, and especially if they also like cats! This card features the adorable image of Newton on the bookshelf from our Newton's Book Club Stamp Set. He's found just the right cozy place to nap amongst the books! She colored the image using lovely soft shades of primary colors and added white gel pen accents. For the card she created a frame to fit around the image using the rounded corner rectangle die cut from our Frames & Flags Die Set over some woodgrain patterned paper. Then she cut a window out of this shape using the coordinating Newton's Book Club Die Set so that it fits perfectly over the image. She embossed the sentiment along the bottom in white. She also used our Frames & Flags Die Set to create the scalloped red rectangle in the background and added a subtle pattern to it using our Gingham Stencil with red ink.

Here is a close-up so you can see her lovely coloring:

Interactive Hello Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Today we have another fun interactive project to share by Ellen! Each month she is sharing an interactive project to inspire you!

Today is she's sharing a fun window card with a hidden message!

Here are step-by-step instructions from Ellen on how to make a card like this:
Interactive Hello Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Deer Friend Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
  1. (Photo on Top Left) First think of an idea on what you want to create and start coloring the images. I started with some elements from the “Deer Friend” and the “Fox Hollow” stamp set and colored them with Copic Markers.
  2. (Photo on Top Right)When the images are colored, first check where the window should be placed on the outside of the card. If you know that you can cut the window (I’m using the stitched frame from the Newton’s Book Club Die Set for it).
  3. Finish the outside of your card. Maybe you can give it color with a stencil or keep it white as I did with a little bow on the side.
  4. As last step you create a flat inside portion. I created a scene with Oxide inks and added a grass border using the Land Borders Die Set. I added the two smallest flags using the Frames & Flags Die Set to hold  the title. The sentiment uses word stamps from the Loveable Laundry Stamp Set and the Simply Relative Stamp Set set to created a lovely message.
Here is how the finished card looks when it's closed.
Just part of the scene peeks out from the window:

When the card is opened the message is revealed along with the rest of the scene:

Cat Lovers Hop 2016

Cat Lovers Hop!

This week was the Cat Lovers Hop! I really wanted to post a card earlier but it's been a bit crazy here with our NEW holiday release this week! So I'm sneaking one in late today! There's still one more day to play along! To participate in this blog hop, you just have to create a project that features a cat and upload it to the post on Her Peaceful Garden! You totally should play along if you can since there are some really awesome sponsors and prizes, including one from us at Newton's Nook Designs

Here's what I created:
Curl up with a good book Cat card by Jennifer Jackson| Newton's Book Club Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

I don't know about you but this time of year feels like the perfect time to curl up and read! So I pulled out my Newton's Book Club stamp set to create this fun card. It's hard to choose my favorite image from this set but I settled on the cute kitty reading a book! I love those glasses! I stamped him onto watercolor paper with waterproof ink and colored him with inktense colored pencils and a waterbrush. I added the "Curl up with a good book" sentiment above him, also from the Newton's Book Club stamp set and then started on the card base.
Curl up with a good book Cat card by Jennifer Jackson| Newton's Book Club Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

I decided to use a fun teal and orange combo for colors and used a teal card base, adding a layer of plaid pattern paper and some polka dot papers too. Then I added strip of teal chevron washi tape and some fun colored dots. When I added the image to the card the square seemed too "square" so I used a corner rounder on two corners to give it a little more interest!

This card would be perfect for our current inky paws challenge too! The theme is Cozy Plaids and it's open until Next Friday, Nov. 4 if you want to play along! You can find details here!
Meanwhile, I hope you will play along with the Cat Lovers Hop!  I know Newton, our sweet kitty, definitely approves of this hop!! Have you met Newton yet? If you haven't, here's a quick pic of him! He's the inspiration for many of our cat themed stamps and the namesake of our company!  You have until Oct 29th to link up at Her Peaceful Garden for a chance to win prizes!
