Hello Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Personalized Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Balloon Shaker Die Set, Essential Alphabet Die Set, Falling Leaves Stencil and Frames & Flags Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Hello Baby Card!

Today Ellen is showing how to create a customized baby card that is perfect for a special baby!

To start out, Ellen die cut a photo of the baby using the balloon shape from our Balloon Shaker Die Set. She used the same die set to cut a balloon shape from acetate, a balloon frame from adhesive foam and a balloon frame from colored paper to create a shaker card. She adhered the foam over the photo then added sequins to the center. Then she added the acetate and colored cardstock frame on top.

Once the balloon was assembled she used our Essential Alphabet Die Set to cut out letters to spell the baby's name. She added these on top of the balloon along with the word "hello" from the Loveable Laundry Stamp Set. She also added the string with a bow, also from our Balloon Shaker Die Set, cut out of gold cardstock.

Next, she created a card base to add the shaker shape onto. She was inspired by the parents birth announcement for the baby which included green colors and leaves so she used our Falling Leaves Stencil with green colored inks to create a lovely leaf filled background panel. She also cut out a scallop edged frame using our Frames & Flags Die Set from gray cardstock to frame the stenciled panel.

In the center of the image she combined words from our Bitty Bibs and Loveable Laundry Stamp Set to create the sentiment, stamped onto a circle that was also cut out using our Frames Squared Die Set. In the background she added a fun woodgrain pattern with our Hardwood Stencil

Coordinating Baby Gift Projects by August Guest Designer Angie Cimbalo

Hello and welcome, it's Angie Cimbalo here and I have my last August guest design post for you.
It has been a fun month for me and such an honor to guest design for Newton's Nook!
Today I use some Newton's Nook - cute as ever baby stamps and dies - to make a set of coordinating crafty items that I needed for an upcoming baby shower.

I'm guessing you can tell this is for a baby girl, since there is soooo much pink!

The four projects for today are:
  1. "Welcome baby" decorated gift bag
  2. Baby gift wrapped in pink stenciled paper
  3. "Welcome baby" tag
  4. "Welcome baby" card

First up is the gift bag:

I stamped, heat embossed, cut and colored three onesies from the Loveable Laundry stamp set and a wreath from Happy Little Thoughts to use for my sentiment. The sentiment is from the onesie set and all images were colored with pastel Spectrum Noir markers. The bag was just a plain pink gift bag that I bought to decorate. I've attached the three colored onesies to some twine with tiny clothes pins and added glitter tissue paper inside the bag (along with the gift) and some pink curling ribbon to the handles.

Next up is the gift wrapped in stenciled paper with the attached tag:

I really wanted everything to coordinate so I took some plain white wrapping paper and cut the size I needed to wrap the gift. Next I used Simon Says Ink's "Hollyhock" ink, a blender brush, and the Gingham Stencil from Newton's Nook to create my own wrapping paper to match. The tag on the present was cut with a tag die, covered in a vellum paper from Creative Devotion, and decorated with another onesie and wreath with the sentiment inside. The tag and gift also have pink curling ribbon on them to finish them off.

And last but not least is the card I made to go along with the gifts.

The top white panel was stenciled with the same ink and stencil as the wrapping paper, then cut with a rectangle die and matted on a black panel. Next, I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black card stock and cut it into a strip. I added tiny hearts to some of the squares of the gingham pattern, and one to the sentiment strip, then popped up the sentiment strip on foam tape. The hearts were made with a tiny heart punch I have in my stash. I added the stenciled panel to the card base then added the sweet heart-filled onesie stamped image next to the sentiment.

Here's another look at the baby card:

And there you have it, a matching group of projects all made with the same stamps, dies and stencils from Newton's Nook! I am ready for the baby shower!

I want to extend a huge thank-you to Jennifer and Samantha for inviting me to guest design this month. It has been a lot of fun and an honor to get to share some of my projects made with Newton's Nook products with all of you!

Stay safe and have a wonderful September!

Oh Baby! Card by Nakaba Rager

Oh Baby! Card by Nakaba Rager | Baby Bib Die Set, Stitched Onesie Die Set and Essential Alphabet Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Oh Baby!

Today we are sharing a darling baby card by Naki! She combined the bib from our Baby Bib Die Set and the onesie from our Stitched Onesie Die Set to cut out adorable baby clothes from patterned paper. Both of these die sets also have stamp sets that coordinate with them (check our shop for the Bitty Bibs Stamp Set and the Loveable Laundry Stamp Set), but it's so fun to see how the dies can be easily used on their own to create a sweet baby card.

She layered the die cut onesie and bibs onto her card over a handmade rainbow of stripes, created from bits of paper in different colors. Along the bottom she added the "oh baby! sentiment by cutting letters our with our Essential Alphabet Die Set

This card would be so perfect to give to an expectant or new parent to celebrate their little one!

Thank you for the sweet inspiration today, Naki! If you like this project you can see more of Naki's work over on her blog, Notes from Naki. Stop by and say hello!

Just a Little Note Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Just a Little Note Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Garden Mice Stamp Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Just a little note for Baby!

Today we are sharing an adorable baby themed card created by Ellen! She created this sweet card with a pocket that holds a pull-out tag on the front for an extra fun and special message! She used the tag from our Fancy Edges Tag Die Set (see instructions on the assembly below).  She also decorated the tag pocket using using the cute image of the mouse from our Garden Mice Stamp Set. She colored the image (see color combo below) and cut it out using the coordinating Garden Mice Die Set to layer it onto her card. She also added on two cute little mushrooms in matching colors, stamped from our Hedgehog Hollow Stamp Set and cut out with the coordinating Hedgehog Hollow Die Set

Tips on creating this card!
Below we have some tips from Ellen on how to create this card with the fun tag pocket and details on her color combo!

Just a Little Note Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Garden Mice Stamp Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  1.  (Above left photo) First I die cut out a card base using the Frames & Flags Die Set. I also glued a pocket on my card. You can easily make your own pocket, using a square with 3 extra flaps. These flaps can be used to stick the pocket on your card.
  2. (Above center photo) I die cut out the tag using the Fancy Edges Tag Die Set and stamped a few words on top of the tag from the Loveable Laundry Stamp Set with embossing power. After that it was time to give the tag color with distress inks.
  3. (Above right photo) Then I sprinkled water and white and red ink on top. To ensure that the words remain legible, I placed a piece of paper on the text. To finish the message I die cut the word "happy" from the Walking Woofs Die Set out of glitter paper.

Coloring tips Ellen Haxelmans | Garden Mice Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
  1. I colored the mice illustration using Zig markers. Marker Swatch (shown in photo above)
  1. As last step I placed the images on my card and some extra glitter hearts and rhinestones.

We hope you enjoyed the extra instruction from Ellen today! Here is a close up of the final result with the tag pulled out of the pocket!

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Peony Blooms and Lovely Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Coloring flowers with Colored Pencils by Ellen

Today we have two fun coloring tutorial to share by Ellen! She's showing you step by step how she colored the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set.

Step by Step flower Coloring Tutorial:

First of all I use Derwent Coloursoft pencils, these are the “copic markers” in a pencil formula. What I mean to say, is that they are made for blending. So if you want to add more details on your coloring, you should use other type of pencils.

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Peony Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • Picture 1 (left): I started with a stamped image of a flower from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set. To begin coloring, color the light and dark areas from your flower petals. I used a darker purple C240 and a soft pink C170. I try to use the lines of the illustration and color over them and make them longer with my pencils.
  • Picture 2 (center):This looks like I colored a lot more, but actually I colored with a little bit of a lighter color just above the purple (C260) and further I went with a light blue on areas that did need more highlights.
  • Picture 3 (right): Then I fill in all left over space with a pink pencil (C210) and went further in the dark areas with the C280.
Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lovely Blooms and Peony Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • Picture 4 (left): As last step I colored the dark petals from dark to light with C280 C330 and C300.
  • Picture 5 (center): The next flower is a lot more easy to color.  This is a small bloom from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. I used a red and a oranger color on the center of the flower ( C120 and C550).
  • Picture 6 (right): I did go lighter with the a softer orange and yellow (C080 and C040).
Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lovely Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • Picture 7 (left): The leaves are also more easy. These leaves are also from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. First I layered down the darker colors C400 and C500.
  • Picture 8 (center): Afterwards I used a in between green color C450.
  • Picture 9 (right): The last color is very bright C460. I color the complete leave with them and did go over it with a blender pencil to make the transition go smoother.
Once the flowers and leaves were all colored, Ellen created an awesome card using them.
Here is a another look at the finished card:

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Peony Blooms and Lovely Blooms Stamp Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Ellen clustered the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set over each corner of a purple panel. For the panel she used our stitched rectangle die cut from our Frames & Flags Die Set and added a quilted pattern over the top using another brands die set. She added in the custom sentiment using the "welcome" from our Loveable Laundry Stamp Set along with the custom sentiment "Noor" (the name of the baby) using our Essential Alphabet Die Set withe some glittery paper.

I hope you enjoyed this card by Ellen today and learned a few tips about coloring with pencils!
