Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

You can head over to Amy Tsuruta's Blog for more details on how to play along!

Here's what I created:

Coffee Card by Jennifer Jackson for Coffee lovers blog hop | Love à la Carte Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

I thought I'd use our fun Love à la Carte Set since it has an image of a Coffee Cup with some sugar  - just perfect for the theme of today's hop! I still am in the "holiday" card making mode so I decided to make this a warm wintery card. I colored the coffee cup red with a pop of teal for the saucer using copics. Then I fussy cut it out and layered it with some different circles to make a fun tag. I created the card base from Kraft colored cardstock and added some snowflake pattern paper to give it a holiday feel. Although the Love à la Carte stamp set does have some fun sentiments in it I decided to use the "warm Wishes" from the Snow Day set instead - just to make it feel more wintery!  Then I added a bit of sparkle with some glittery washi tape and a doily because I just love the look of doilies!

Warm Wishes Octopus Card!

Warm Wishes Octopus card using SEAson's Greeting Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

Sending you lots of warm wishes!

Has it been cold where you live? This January has been a horribly cold one here in Wisconsin. We've had several days of -20 and lower temps! Sooooo cold! So I thought it would be fun to make a silly warm wishes octopus card to send a friend this winter!

Plus, I love finding ways to use stamps for multiple occasions. This set, SEAson's Greetings, was part of our holiday release but I love that just by changing the colors to something a little less holiday, you can easily make this card fit other wintery occasions too!

To create this card, I stamped this cute octo on watercolor paper with waterproof ink and then colored it in with distress markers and a water brush. I love this purple/green/teal color combo! So fun and cheery! Here are a couple close-ups so you can see the fun coloring.

After the ocotpus was all colored I cut it out with circle dies in my big shot and then added it onto this card with a doily behind it for fun! Then I added some patterned paper and washi tape (I can't seem to make a card without washi tape and bakers twine lately).

What do you think? Doesn't changing up the colors really give this stamp set a fresh, winter feel? I also grabbed the "warm wishes" sentiment from the Snow Day Stamp set - but you could use any word you like - it would be cute for a winter birthday too!

By the way - this set is one of our sets that's ON SALE this week!  We're trying to make room for our spring sets -so from now until Friday, February 7th - select stamp sets are on sale for just $10.99!  What a great time to snatch them up! Check out our site to see the sale: http://www.newtonsnookdesigns.com/sale/

Snowman Card & a Peek into my Sketchbook!

Snowman card using Frozen Friends stamps by Newton's Nook Designs

Sweet Snowman Couple

Today I'm sharing a super simple snow-couple card I created using our Frozen Friends stamp set. This card was really simple to create. I just stamped the image of the two snowmen on the Kraft cardstock and colored them in with some colored pencils. Then I added some snowflakes with kraft-colored ink and the "baby it's cold outside sentiment" from the same set in black. I mounted the whole thing on a white background and added a blue ribbon. This would be a great card to make multiples of if you needed a bunch because it was really easy to make!

Behind the scenes of our winter stamp designs...

I thought it might be fun to share with you how I create a stamp set - I get lots of questions - do you really draw those images by hand? So I thought I'd do a little bit of sharing about my creative process!

Mostly I just start sketching!
Sometimes that's the hardest part - sometimes it's the easiest - it just depends. I look for inspiration in lots of places - Pinterest, fashion & home magazines, out shopping, museums, real-life experiences! You never know when something might give you an idea. Then I pull out my sketchbook and just start drawing. Sometimes I get it right on the first try - sometimes I have to draw something over and over until I get it just right. For these particular images, it ended up being almost the same as my first sketch.

Here's a couple pages I scanned in from my sketch book -- these ones are in pencil:

And here's another page - I ended up drawing these two with black drawing pens:

As you can see, I turn my sketch book as needed and sketch whichever direction I think the image will fit into! I don't like working large.  My sketchbook is usually small - I think this one was a 6x6.

Digitize it!
If I didn't like the first sketch I might draw it a few more times. Sometimes I use tracing paper or go over it with black drawing markers - it really just depends on how I'm feeling about it. Once I have it the way I like it it goes into my flatbed scanner and I have what you see above. Then I import that into Adobe Illustrator and "re-draw" the whole thing. That way I can get the lines perfectly smooth and make sure everything is the proportion I want it. Sometimes I "tweak" or change things a little but they're usually pretty close to the sketch. I also print it out a few times and color it too. Although this sometimes takes a long time - I want to make sure the final images are "perfect" before I have the stamps made!

And here's what the final Frozen Friends set looks like:

And that snow bear  from the first page ended up not with the snowmen but instead in the Snow Day stamp set with the other animals! Here's how that one turned out:

What do you think? Did you like seeing "behind the scenes"?

Have a great weekend and make sure to come back next week - Sneak Peeks for our Jan. Release start on Monday! Soooo excited!

Sledding Puppy Card

Sledding Puppy Card using Snow Day Stamp set from Newton's Nook Designs!

Wheee!

Here's a fun card I made using the sledding puppy from our Snow Day Stamp set! I stamped him onto watercolor paper and had fun coloring him in teals and greens using distress markers. Doesn't he look like he's have fun sledding? I added him onto this card with some ribbon that I glued down in at "ruffle" and added button to the top. I think this turned out to be a really fun color combo!

Another thing I like about this card is that it could be for any occasion! It's just a cute, fun card you could send out to anyone!

Snowy Shaker Card

Snowy Shaker Card using Snow Day Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs.

Bunny Snow Day!

Do you have Snow Days where you live? We live in Wisconsin and usually there is at least one "snow day" each year where we get too much snow and are all snowed in. Schools close, Malls close, and if you're lucky -  you get to stay home from work too! You literally can't get anywhere because it takes awhile for the snow plows to clean them up! I LOVE snow days - they are usually an unexpected day to stay in and watch movies or catch up on things at home - or just relax! I'm hoping to get one soon -- but so far it's just been COLD -- which means schools close but all the adults still have to go out!

I think this bunny in snowshoes from the Snow Day stamp set is one of my favorite stamps right now  —don't tell Newton! — but he's so much fun to color! I colored this bunny with copic markers, giving him bright teal shoes! Then I used him to make a fun little shaker card with some sequins, including a couple of snowflake-shaped ones. I used a teal card stock base and added some teal ribbon to coordinate with the sequin colors. I also added the "Snow Day" sentiment in a green circle to bring in a bit more green.

If you haven't tried to make a shaker card yet, I posted a tutorial a while back on this post: Prehistoric Pals Shaker Card Tutorial - make sure to check it out. They're so fun to make!

Warm Wishes Penguin Card

Warm Wishes Penguin Card using Snow Day Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

Snowy Night Skating Scene

Today I'm sharing a card using the cute little penguin from the Snow Day stamp set. I created this fun "night" scene by creating falling snow with some embossing paste and a dotted background stencil on dark blue card stock. Then I stamped two penguins on white card stock, colored them with copics and cut them out. I made the snowy hills by hand cutting a couple curved from white card stock and sponging the edges to give them some dimension. Then I added on the penguins with dimensional dots. I thought it needed a sentiment so I stamped the "warm wishes" from the Snow Day stamp set and made it into a little banner. I also added some sparkly twine around it to add a little bit of extra interest. I am loving this card! So fun for winter!

Snow-one else like this bunny!

Bunny wearing Snowshoes Winter card from Newton's Nook Designs

Sweet Snowy Bunny!

I love this cute little bunny image from our Snow Day stamp set! It makes me smile every time I color it! For this card I colored the bunny with pastel colors, thinking it might be a fun valentine or just cute for a winter  thank you card. I colored him on watercolor paper with distress markers to give that soft, watercolor look. Then I carefully trimmed him out. For the rest of the card, I used a fun tree stencil and some embossing paste and glitter to make the background. Then I hand cut out a curve to represent a hill of snow. I added some ink on the edges with a sponge to make it pop off a bit.  Then I added the "snow-one else like you!" sentiment from our Frozen Friends stamp set. I love how you can mix and match images and sentiments from Snow Day and Frozen Friends. They really work well together.

I'm not sure if I will save this card for a Valentine or send it out as a thank you for some holiday gifts...

Frosty Paws Scrapbook Page by Samantha Mann for Newton's Nook Designs

Frosty Paws on a Snowy Day!

Awww! Check out this adorable scrapbook page by Design Team Member, Samantha Mann! Samantha took these photos of her kitty, Phoenix exploring his first snow! I love the photo with the kitty paw prints -- so adorable!

Samantha used four NND sets on her page!  The sweet kitty in a scarf is from Newton's Holiday Mischief and fun snow sentiment "snow much fun" is from Snow Day and the "baby it's cold outside" is from Frozen Friends.  Then she added on some pawprints from Newton's Antics! Here's a close-up so you can see that cute kitty!
