Make Lemonade Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Make Lemonade Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lemon Twist Stamp Set, Jar Hot Foil Plates & Die Set, Trailing Leaves Stencil, and various shape die sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Lemonade, please!

Today we are featuring a delicious lemonade themed card by Ellen!

This fun card features our Jar Hot Foil Plate along with juicy lemons from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set

To create the jar part of the card Ellen used our Jar Hot Foil Plate and die. She used the hot foil plate to add silver foil onto a heat resistant transparency sheet. She then used the die from the set to cut out the shaker window from a blue inked background. She filled the jar shaker with lots of sequins and sparkle!

Next, she stamped and colored the lemon pieces from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set. She colored them with alcohol markers, adding fun dotted details. She cut the lemons out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set and arranged them around the jar. She also added a bit of sand along the bottom using our Land Borders Die Set to cut the curved edge. The whole thing is framed with a yellow scalloped edged panel that was cut out using our  Frames & Flags Die Set.  Last, she added the sentiment, embossed on white onto a yellow banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set.

Life Gives you Lemons!

This sunny cheerful card by Donna is sure to brighten your day!

She created this card using the yummy lemon images from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set. She stamped the big lemon twice, coloring it in bright yellow shades with green leaves. She also stamped a couple of the tiny flowers from the set. She die cut the images using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set and then arranged them in a cluster to add onto her card.

For the card, she started with a white card base, then added a fun pop of yellow paper, cutting it out with our Framework Die Set. She masked off the edge of the die cut along the stitching and then added stamped citrus slices to the inside of the masked area. She also added a bit of dark yellow ink along the top edge to help the lemons pop!
For the sentiment, she embossed the words onto black cardstock using white embossing powder.

Squeeze the Day!

Today Tatiana created a gorgeous lemon card by contrasting a dark card base with vibrant colors! She used the images of the whole lemon and lemon slice from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set. She embossed the image with white embossing powder to give them soft edges. Then she used watercolors to color the images, adding details and fun splatters for texture! The lemon images were cut out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set. She layered these images of a dark navy blue card base! Thank you Lemon Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Thank you Lemon Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lemon Twist Stamp Set, Frames & Flags Die Set, Essential Alphabet Die Set, Floral Roundabout Stamp Set and Banner Trio Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Thank You Lemon Card!

Today Ellen has created a gorgeous and colorful lemon card using a color wheel to help her pick colors! Scroll down to the end of this post to see her color wheel tips!

For this stunning card she started out with a beautifully inked background panel in bright red. She framed the panel with a yellow scalloped frame that was die cut using our Frames & Flags Die Set
Next she added a full lemon and lemon slice using our Lemon Twist Stamp Set, coloring them in gorgeous shades of yellow. She also added some pieces of lemon twists and little flowers from the same set, cutting all the images out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set.

Thank you Lemon Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lemon Twist Stamp Set, Frames & Flags Die Set, Essential Alphabet Die Set, Floral Roundabout Stamp Set and Banner Trio Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

For the sentiment, she created a custom message. She cut out the letters to spell "Thanks" using our Essential Alphabet Die Set. Then she added the "You are Amazing" sentiment from the Floral Roundabout Stamp Set, embossing it in white onto a banner from the Banner Trio Die Set. She matched the cardstock colors on the die cut letters and the banner so they coordinate perfectly together!

Using a Color Wheel

Below we have some tips from Ellen on how to use a color wheel to choose colors:

Thank you Lemon Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Lemon Twist Stamp Set, Frames & Flags Die Set, Essential Alphabet Die Set, Floral Roundabout Stamp Set and Banner Trio Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

A color wheel is handy an essential tool for crafters. By organizing the colors in a circle, the wheel shows you what the relationship between different colors is, what the effect of mixing colors will be and which colors combine well with each other. Today I look at the Triadic colors. Those are three colors that are equally spread over the color wheel. These create a lively visual interest. It is therefore ideal to make a card with the correct contrast colors. Some palettes are brighter, while others are more refined.

Of course I colored the lemons yellow so I used that as a starting point. The other two colors are red and blue. You can of course also make adjustments by adding a lighter shade or some darker shade instead of sticking to the real color. I did the same with the blue color; I made it much lighter. I would never combine these colors myself but I think the card looks beautiful!

A Big Welcome to Amy Tsuruta + Design Team Recap!

We have a new addition to our Design Team!  A big warm welcome to Amy!

We are so excited to have Amy Tsuruta joining our team! We have always been big fans of Amy's work and are so happy to have her sharing and creating with our team on the Newton's Nook Designs blog! Her cards are filled with gorgeous color combos and creative layouts that will surely make you smile! Amy will begin designing with our team with the new Release in August and we can't wait to share what she creates!

Here's a little more about her and a fun project by her today!

Amy Tsuruta
Tsuruta Designs

Hey there, my name is Amy and I'm thrilled to be a new designer on the awesome Newton's Nook Designs' team!  I'm a Canadian living in Washington State.  I work part-time for a biotech company and the rest of the time you can usually find me in my craft room drinking coffee and designing cards. I remember being crafty when I was in elementary school but I feel like things really started when I signed up to be my youngest's co-op preschool's Scrapbook Coordinator. Honestly, I had never scrapbooked at that point but I had so much fun managing it and we still have that scrapbook from 19 years ago [wow].  My style has changed so much over the years, these days I'm smitten with pastels but I still love designing with bright and bold colors too.  You can find me on my blog or IG.

We even have a fun new project created by Amy to share with you today! She used our Lemon Twist Stamp Set to create a fun citrus themed card! She stamped the image of the lemon slice three times and colored it in orange, pink and yellow. She cut the slices out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set. Then she added them to a beautiful slimline card!
Citrus Slimline card by Amy Tsuruta | Lemon Twist Stamp Set, Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set and Essential Alphabet Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

She used our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to create the fun slimline die cut shape with the trio of holes and for the background with the scalloped edge. She placed a slice of citrus over each circle cut out and then used our Essential Alphabet Die Set to add in the custom sentiment, "You are the zest" placed between the citrus slices! So clever!

And a Now we'd like to give a BIG shout-out to the rest of our AWESOME Design Team!

We just LOVE our Design Team! We are so thankful to have all these lovely ladies staying on our team! They continue to amaze us each month with their incredible creativity!

Hi, I'm Samantha Mann and I couldn't be happier to continue for another term with Newton's Nook Designs!! My husband and I have lived all over the US, from Washington State to Florida, but we're currently in hot, humid, coastal South Carolina! We have two boys (who I usually call my little Menn, even if they're not-so-little anymore)! I have always been in love with school supplies (ever since elementary school when I would save my nickels to buy cute pencils or erasers!) and that love just grew and developed into my crazy obsession (read: passion!) of paper crafting! I love making cards and even dabble with the occasional scrapbook layout! You can always find me with some inky fingers and lots of ink blending! I'm definitely quirky, and love to make playful, humorous sentiments for my cards (and layouts)! I work full time for an advertising company and spend every other moment I can paper crafting, reading and enjoying the little moments in everyday family life.

Hello, I’m Ellen and I live a little further from the USA; I come from Belgium with my husband Davey.

I've always been artsy and even studied art. In my current job I don’t do anything creative and that’s why I really like to paint, draw and of course create cards in my free time. Even till Davey gets nuts of it haha! As a big Newton’s Nook Designs fan, I'm so blessed and happy to be a part of this awesome team for another term! I’m so curious what the next release will look like, so bring it on!

Hello! My name is Zsofia Molnar and I am a card maker from Hungary. I am thrilled to join this amazing Design Team. I live in beautiful Budapest with my 2 kids (9 and 6 years old) and the most loving husband ever. We are a truly trilingual family as my husband is Egyptian and we communicate with each other in English. I started paper crafting more or less 6 years ago when I was fascinated by all the pretty scrapbook layouts. I have never even made a single one, but rather fell in love with making cards and sharing handmade kindness with my family and friends. I am an addict since then, I have to be crafty every day to feel good. This is my little escape. I love cute critters, florals and I really enjoy building scenes with layers. I am curious to try new techniques but my favourites are still Copics and Distress inks. You can follow my crafty journey on my blog: www.safsafdesign.wordpress.com or on Instagram @safsafdesign2016.

Maria Russell

Hello stampers and crafters. My name is Maria Russell and I am so THRILLED to be a part of the Newton’s Nook Designs design team.  My husband and I have lived all over the world and we have two talented, beautiful children (now adults).

My love for paper crafting began in high school when my friends and I wrote each other letters, took photos, kept a journal and scrapbooks.  It kind of looked like a smash-book because I had everything in there from ticket stubs, to beautiful napkins, to candy wrapper.  Paper crafting is very therapeutic for me.  I only ventured into card making in 2013 and I am hooked!  I was really honored when one of my cards got published at Scrapbook and Cards magazine, Creative Cards Volume I in 2015.

I am so HAPPY to be a part of this amazing design team!  I’d be honored if you’d like to visit my blog: www.mariarusselldesigns.com

Andrea Shell
Blissfully Scrappy

Hi, NND friends!  My name is Andrea, and I live in the beautiful state of Tennessee.  I'm wife to a wonderful, supportive man and mama to two human babies and two fur babies.  I originally got into papercrafting with scrapbooking, but a few years ago, I fell hard for cardmaking (I still scrapbook because I want to preserve my family's stories, but I spend way more time making cards!).  One of the first stamp companies I discovered when I started this hobby was Newton's Nook Designs.  I just love their adorable, whimsical images!  To be joining their Design Team is truly a dream come true, and I can't wait to share my love for NND with you!

Hello! My name is Tatiana and I’m so excited and honored to be joining the Newton’s Nook Designs DT! I live in sunny Rome with my hubby, stepson and two sweet kitties, Tommy and Lilly.

I always loved everything handmade and crafty related and tried all kinds of hobbies from jewelry making to crocheting until I discovered and felt in love with a magical world of paper crafting. Cardmaking and coloring became my relaxing getaway.

I like getting inky, experimenting, stretching my supplies, learning new techniques and coloring with any medium, especially cat images which I often make look like my kitties.
