Floral Get Well Card with Guest Designer Brennan Keane

Today we are sharing another post with our very special guest. We featuring the work of the young and talented Brennan Keane! Brennan is a big fan of creating cards featuring flowers and we are enjoying all his lovely floral cards over on instagram at bkd_creations! Today we are excited to share a card he created especially for our blog! Keep reading on to view his lovely project today!

 

Hello everyone again!
My name is Brennan and I am a 15 year old crafter from Boston!
This is my second guest design for Newton’s Nook and it has been an absolutely amazing experience! In almost all of my paper crafting creations, flowers are involved. For this guest design, I wanted to use one of the many flower stamps from Newton’s Nook. After looking through all of the great options, I decided on the Lovely Blooms stamp set! 

I first stamped out the larger of the flowers, the stem, and the large leaf. Instead of using my typical ink (which is distress ink in the color black soot) to stamp the flower, I used the VersaFine Clair ink pad in the color Nocturne.

I then covered the ink with clear embossing powder and heated it up. I then colored the flower with copic markers. I used RV10 as the base and then blended R81 on top to get the gradient. I used G24 for the leaf and stem and added Y15 for the centers of each flower. After everything was colored, I cut the images out with the coordinating dies and assembled the flower. I used liquid glue, but you could use whatever adhesive is your favorite! I just like the extra time the liquid glue gives me to adjust the pieces if needed.

To add interest to the card, I blended some of Catherine Pooler’s ink in the color Garden Party through the Serene Stripes Stencil. After the background was created, I stamped the Get Well Soon sentiment from the Daffodils Stamp Set (another one of my favorites)! While I don’t do this too often, I decided to pop up the card with foam squares. To put the finishing touch on this card, I added a few green embellishment gems and a black border to the card front before gluing it to the card base!

Thank You Card for Someone Amazing

Has someone done something special to make your day? Let them know with a lovely handmade card like this one by Maria! 

To create this beautiful floral bouquet she used the big blooms from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. She colored a big yellow Hydrangea bloom and several swirly roses to create her bouquet. She included some stamped leaves and additional die cut leaves using our Flower Trio Die Set. After the images were cut out with the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set, she arranged them in a cluster over the top of the jar, also from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. Inside the jar you can see the flower stems along with some chunky glitter for added sparkle. 

She arranged everything on a white card base, leaving room for the sentiment on the bottom. For the sentiment she chose the "thank you for being so amazing!" from our Best Mom Oval Stamp Set. She colored the letters in the word "amazing" in rainbow colors too for another special finishing touch!

This card is sure to make the recipient feel special!

Get Well Soon Floral Card by Maria Russell

Get Well Soon Floral Card 

Today we have a gorgeous floral card by Maria to share! This beautiful get well card features the floral blooms from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. Maria embossed the images in white onto kraft colored cardstock and added color with distress oxide inks. Isn't the effect so pretty? She cut the flowers out using the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set and clustered the colored images onto the corners of her card. She also added a tonal pattern of flowers onto the background by stamping them with a light brown ink. Some splatters of white and iridescent embellishments add a special finishing touch! 

For the sentiment she embossed "get well soon" from our Heartfelt Essentials Stamp Set onto a black banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set.

This card would definitely brighten anyone's day and is perfect for sending cheer someone who hasn't been feeling well!

Sea Themed Cards for Mom and Grandma by Maria Russell

Sea Themed Cards for Mom & Grandma!

Today we are sharing a duo of sea themed cards by Maria featuring our Tides of Love Stamp Set that are perfect for sending love to a special Mother or Grandma for Mother's Day or any time of year! Although we first think of this set as a Valentine's Day Set, these projects show how this set can be used for so much more!

Her first card features the image of the Octopus hugging a heart from our Tides of Love Stamp Set. She colored him with alcohol markers, adding fun speckled details and then fussy cut the image out by hand to add to her card. For the card base she added layers of waves using the hill from our Hills & Grass Stencil with several shades of blue inks! So pretty! She added the octopus, along with some seaweed (die from another brand) and clear epoxy bubble stickers. For the sentiment she combined the word "mother" from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set with the "You Octopi my heart!" from the Tides of Love Stamp Set.

For her second card, she created a whale card for Grandma! 

She used the image of the whale from our Tides of Love Stamp Set, stamping it in light gray to give the edges a soft look! She colored the image in soft shades, giving the octopus a sweet pink cheek! She used the coordinating Tides of Love Die Set to cut out the image. For her card she created a lovely sea colored background with distress inks. For the sentiment she combined the "I whale always love you" from the Tides of Love Stamp Set with the word "grandma" from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. She framed the scene with a decorative die cut frame (from another brand).

An Amazing Mother's Day Card by Samantha Mann

Amazing Mother!

Mother's Day is nearly here! Have you made a card for Mom yet? If not, this card by Samantha is sure to inspire! Samantha created this gorgeous card using the jar and Hydrangea blooms from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. She colored the hydrangea bloom with gorgeous shades of blue and purple and layered it over the jar with punches of leaves, also from the set. She used the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set to cut the images out.

She used two stencils to create the amazing background. She started with our Hardwood Stencil, creating a tone on tone woodgrain look. Then she layered our Floral Lace Stencil over the top and stenciled it in white in the two corners of the card! What a gorgeous effect!

The finishing touch is the sentiment. She embossed the words from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and the Simply Relative Stamp Set in white on black cardstock and then fussy cut them out by hand! So lovely!

Mother's Day Card by Samantha Mann

Mother's Day Tulips!

Have you thought about Mother's Day yet? It is just around the corner and will be here before you know it! Today we are sharing a gorgeous card by Samantha that is perfect for sending to a special mother! She created a beautiful tulip trio using our Beautiful Spring Stamp Set. This set has two different tulip tops and stems as separate images so you can mix and match if you like. She used the same image for all three but colored them in different shades of purple. She cut the images out using our Beautiful Spring Die Set. She layered this over a hand inked background that looks like a  whole field of tulips! For the sentiment she combined words from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and Simply Relative Stamp Set. These two sets have sentiments in the same style so they mix perfectly together. She embossed the words in white and carefully hand cut around the word mother to give an extra special touch! Any mother would be thrilled to receive this card in the mail!

Owl-ways and Forever Card by Larissa Heskett

Owl-ways & Forever!

Today Larissa has created an adorable owl card that is perfect for Spring! She started out with the cute owl couple from our Love Owl-ways Stamp Set. She colored the sweet birds with Copic markers, added lots of little dots for texture and white gel pen accents too. She trimmed out the image using the coordinating Love Owl-ways Die Set. Then she created a gorgeous wreath for them to sit in using a bunch of different floral stamps. She created the circle using three lily stems from our Little Lillies Stamp Set, and added lots of extra little blooms and leaves from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and Toucan Party Stamp Set. She colored all these lovely flowers and cut them out with their coordinating die sets. Then she assembled them into a wreath shape. She also added in a branch for the owls to perch on using our Winter Birds Stamp Set and coordinating Winter Birds Die Set.

In the background of the card you can also see some lovely blue hearts. She added these in using our Tumbling Hearts Stencil.

Floral Pencil Coloring Tutorial Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Coloring flowers with Colored Pencils by Ellen

Today we have two fun coloring tutorial to share by Ellen! She's showing you step by step how she colored the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set.

Step by Step flower Coloring Tutorial: 

First of all I use Derwent Coloursoft pencils, these are the “copic markers” in a pencil formula. What I mean to say, is that they are made for blending. So if you want to add more details on your coloring, you should use other type of pencils.

• Picture 1 (left): I started with a stamped image of a flower from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set. To begin coloring, color the light and dark areas from your flower petals. I used a darker purple C240 and a soft pink C170. I try to use the lines of the illustration and color over them and make them longer with my pencils.
• Picture 2 (center):This looks like I colored a lot more, but actually I colored with a little bit of a lighter color just above the purple (C260) and further I went with a light blue on areas that did need more highlights.
• Picture 3 (right): Then I fill in all left over space with a pink pencil (C210) and went further in the dark areas with the C280.

• Picture 4 (left): As last step I colored the dark petals from dark to light with C280 C330 and C300.
• Picture 5 (center): The next flower is a lot more easy to color.  This is a small bloom from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. I used a red and a oranger color on the center of the flower ( C120 and C550).
• Picture 6 (right): I did go lighter with the a softer orange and yellow (C080 and C040).

• Picture 7 (left): The leaves are also more easy. These leaves are also from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. First I layered down the darker colors C400 and C500.
• Picture 8 (center): Afterwards I used a in between green color C450.
• Picture 9 (right): The last color is very bright C460. I color the complete leave with them and did go over it with a blender pencil to make the transition go smoother.

Once the flowers and leaves were all colored, Ellen created an awesome card using them. 

Here is a another look at the finished card:

Ellen clustered the flowers and leaves from the Peony Blooms Stamp Set and the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set over each corner of a purple panel. For the panel she used our stitched rectangle die cut from our Frames & Flags Die Set and added a quilted pattern over the top using another brands die set. She added in the custom sentiment using the "welcome" from our Loveable Laundry Stamp Set along with the custom sentiment "Noor" (the name of the baby) using our Essential Alphabet Die Set withe some glittery paper.

Floral Wish Card by Naki Rager

Floral Wish! 

Today we have a gorgeous floral card by Naki featuring our new Peony Blooms Stamp Set. She stamped two of the blooms from the set and colored them with lovely yellow watercolors using the no line coloring technique. Aren't they so beautiful!? She fussy cut them out and added them into  the top of the mason jar, which was stamped using our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. She tied some twine around the top of the jar and embellished the jar by hand writing the letter NND for Newton's Nook Designs! How Fun!

She layered these images with a white doily and some metallic twine over a fun woodgrain paper background! She finished the card off by die cutting the word "wish" using our Balloon Shaker Die Set and added foil to it for a fun sparkly sentiment!

Floral Wreath Card by Larissa Heskett

Lily Wreath

Happy Friday! Today we are sharing a gorgeous floral wreath card by Larissa! She created this beautiful card by stamping and coloring the lily of the valley image from our Little Lilies Stamp Set three times and cutting it out with the coordinating Little Lilies Die Set. She arranged the three die cuts in a circle and layered over them in some of the little blooms from the Little Lilies Stamp Set along with some blooms and leaves from the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. Doesn't it look so beautiful!? What a perfect combination of flowers! For her card base she used our Bubbly Stencil to create a soft background of bubbles with distress inks and added some black splatters and Nuvo drops too! She finished off the card with the "Lovely, Amazing, You" sentiment from our Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set.

Big Birthday Bouquet by Jennifer Jackson

Big Birthday Wishes!

Hello! Jen here today with a fun card using our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set! To make this card I stamped and embossed the jar image with silver embossing powder on vellum. I also stamped the hydrangea bloom, the little flower and leaf onto white card stock and colored them using a combination of markers and colored pencils. Then I trimmed the jar and all the floral pieces out using the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set.  I then cut a panel of white cardstock for my card base and stamped the stems and some additional leaves and flowers directly on this piece. It's a little tricky to line them up behind the other images but I did my best to guess where they should be stamped by using the already die cut images as guides. Then I layered it all together, using 3D foam adhesive to pop up some of the pieces in front of the ones on the base layer. 

To finish off the card I added the "Big wishes for your birthday" using sentiment stamps from the Holding Happiness Stamp Set.  I then added it all to a purple card base and added some blue twine for an extra pop of color! 

I hope you enjoyed this car today! I think this will be a perfect card for a spring birthday! 

April Showers Card by Maria Russell

April Showers + Flowers!

Today Maria created this amazing spring floral card combing two of our stamp sets! She started out with the big spring sentiment from our brand new April Showers Stamp Set, stamping it in black and adding a little blush of color behind it. Then she stamped the big beautiful flowers from our Lovely Blooms Stamp Stamp Set. She colored them in bright spring colors and cut them out using the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set. Then she added them along the curve to accent the sentiment! So pretty! I love how these two sets compliment each other!

Amazing Sister Card by Jennifer Jackson

Amazing Sister!

Hello! Jen here today with a fun card using our Lovely Blooms Stamp Set! To make this card I started out by stamping the jar and stems from on a piece of white paper. I added a bit of shadow inside the jar with light blue and colored the stems. Then I stamped the roses, little blooms and leaves on a separate piece of paper. I colored them using copic markers and cut them out using the coordinating Lovely Blooms Die Set. I assembled them over the jar and used foam tape to raise them up a bit. 

Then I stamped the sentiment "for my amazing sister" by combining some of the words included in the the Lovely Blooms Stamp Set. This set has some great words that are perfect for creating custom sentiments for all the lovely ladies in your life! You could easily change it to Mother or Grandmother for Mother's Day too!

To finish off the card I added a little strip of yellow paper behind it and a fun little twine bow. Then I mounted it to a light teal cardstock base! I hope you enjoyed this project today! I think it turned out so pretty and perfect for Spring!
