Plant Smiles, Grow Laughter Card by Amanda Wilcox

Puppy Laughter and Smiles Card!

Hi friends! It's Amanda from Twiddler's Nook joining you today with a spring-themed card. I created a fabulous stenciled background and used one of the adorable Spring Heights images and sentiments to bring it all together.

This card features:
Spring Heights Stamp Set
Spring Heights Die Set
Trailing Leaves Stencil
Frames & Flags Die Set

First, I stenciled the Trailing Leaves stencil on a piece of white cardstock with two tones of green ink - one darker and one brighter. This gives visual variation in the stenciling. I also faded the inking, darkest in the bottom left corner and lightest in the upper right corner of the panel. After that, I removed the stencil and used the same ink to go over the whole panel in the same fashion. Next, I smooshed ink on an acrylic block, spritzed it with water and flicked it across the panel. Then, I repeated that with white acrylic paint. This is my favorite way to add non-dimensional texture to a panel. 

It's beautiful!

 

Now, it's time for coloring! I stamped and colored my Spring Heights puppy image with copic markers. After that, I used the coordinating die to cut it out. I also chose a sentiment from this set to stamp and heat emboss on a die cut banner from the Frames & Flags die set.

Once the background panel was dry, I ripped one edge off for a more raw look. Before adding this panel to my card base, I took the green ink pads direct-to-paper by dragging them across the edge of the card base. This is a quick and awesome way to add textured color to your paper; especially if your ink pads have a felt base vs foam.

For assembly now, I popped the stenciled panel up with foam tape on the inked card base. Then I wrapped twine around the sentiment banner and added that to the upper right with foam squares. Last, I added my image with foam tape and finished the design off with glossy accents on puppy noses and flower centers.

Little Lilies Card by Samantha Mann

Just Because

Do you ever send a card to someone just because you are thinking of them? Samantha has created a beautiful floral card today featuring our Little Lilies Stamp Set and our Trailing Leaves Stencil, perfect for sending thoughtful wishes for anytime. 

To create this gorgeous card she started by stamping and coloring the stem of lilies from our Trailing Leaves Stencil multiple times. The lily image is great because it's so easy to color with just the white and green. Samatha did add a bit of shading to the white areas with light gray and added accents with a white gel pen. She then cut out the florals using the coordinating Little Lilies Die Set.

For her card base she started with a white panel that was the same height as her card and just a little narrower than the width of the card. She cut out three purple glitter rectangles using our  Cheerful Brights Glitter Cardstock with our Frames & Tags Die Set. She adhered the glitter rectangles to the white panel and then used our Trailing Leaves Stencil to add leaves over the top with white texture paste! Wow! So pretty! She arranged the lilies over the fun background panel, layering them along the left side.

The final touch was the sentiment "just because" which she embossed in black onto a black banner that was cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set.

We love the textures of the glitter and the stencil paste layered together! We hope you will give this fun technique a try!

Thinking of You Card by Amanda Wilcox

Thinking of You!

Have you ever colored on vellum? Today Amanda has created a beautiful floral card using vellum that is perfect for sending thoughtful wishes. 

She started our be stamping the large circle image filled with flowers using our Floral Roundabout Stamp Set onto a piece of vellum. She used Versamark ink and embossed the image in white. To emboss on vellum, just make sure you have a thick weight vellum paper. She cut the image out using the Circle Frames Die Set to give it the fun scalloped edge. Then she colroed the florals using copic markers. A tip from Amanda for coloring vellum is to choose a much darker, deeper color than you're looking for because the vellum lightens it considerably.

For her card, she started with a white card base and inked green leaves onto it using our Trailing Leaves Stencil. The leaves coordinate perfectly with the florals for a fun nature theme. Next, she used our A2 Card Layout Die Set with kraft colored cardstock to cut out the fun panels. She added some ink to the edges to give them a bit of dimension. Then she layered the vellum image on top. The finishing touch is the sentiment from our Floral Roundabout Stamp Set, which she embossed in white onto a banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set. The bright pink paper she used for the banner really makes it pop off the card!

Springtime Wishes Card by Tatiana Trafimovich

Springtime Wishes

Today we are sharing a beautiful card by Tatiana that is perfect for sending a spring hello. 

To create this gorgeous card she started by stamping all the pretty plants from our Succulent Garden Stamp Set. She colored them all in stunning hues of purples and yellows using watercolor markers and then added accents with a white gel pen. She cut all the images out using the coordinating Succulent Garden Die Set. 

For her card, She created an oval window on her card panel by using our Oval Frames Die Set. On one side of the oval she created a tone-on-tone pattern using white texture paste on white cardstock using our Trailing Leaves Stencil. She added the floral images to the other side of the oval, layering them using dimensional tape. She also added some black paint splatters for a fun additional bit of texture. 

For the message she used the "Springtime Wishes" sentiment from our Tulips Stamp Set, stamping half of it on a black rectangle and half of it directly onto the card front.

Postage Stamp Inspired Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Butterfly Postage Stamps

Today we are sharing a beautiful cad by Ellen, inspired by postage stamps!

She started by cutting out three of the small postage stamp shaped rectangles using our Framework Die Set. She masked off the outer edges and inked the inside areas using various distress inks and added a different pattern to each one using our Tree Rings Stencil, Trailing Leaves Stencil and Petite Paw Prints Stencil. 

She added a postage watermark onto each stamp using our Hare Mail Stamp Set (retiring). Then, she cut out butterflies to match the colors of ink using the butterfly shape from our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. She adhered these to each rectangle and added a gemstone the center of each one. 

For her card base she choose a pretty purple floral paper from our Spring Blooms Paper Pad. 

What a beautiful idea and a fun way to send some postage themed happy mail!

Heartfelt Thanks Card by Samantha Mann

Heartfelt Thanks

This year we are hoping to send out more thank you cards, how about you? Today we are sharing some gorgeous inspiration on this thank you card created by Samantha!

To create this beautiful card she started by with big heart filled with roses from our Heartfelt Roses Stamp Set. She embossed the image in white and then used several shades of distress inks to add a gorgeous ink blend over the top. This is a great way to use a large image without doing detailed coloring and it looks amazing! Then she cut out the image using the large scalloped heart die from our Heart Frames Die Set. This image and the rest of the stamps in our Heartfelt category are all designed to fit perfectly inside that die! She also used the thank you sentiment from the Heartfelt Roses Stamp Set, embossing it in white onto a black banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set. 

For her card base she ink blended a gorgegeous green background panel and then added leaves over the top, using our Trailing Leaves Stencil with white texture paste. So gorgeous! 

As a final touch, she cut out three butterflies using the shape die from our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. She sewed them onto her card with a sewing machine and pushed their wing up to add a fun dimension.

Recycled Gift Box by Ellen Haxelmans

A Special gift for mom!

Today Ellen has created fun and unique gift box as a special gift for mom!

To create this box, she simply carefully took apart a box with printing on it and turned it inside out to use the blank inside as the outside. She then decorated it, using our Trailing Leaves Stencil to add pretty pink leaves all over the front. She then used dies from our  Flower Trio Die Set (retiring), Frames Squared Die Set and Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to create the fun center image on the box. 

Last, she added a tag using our Tags Times Two Die Set and Fancy Edges Tag Die Set. She stamped the "to my mom" using our Best Mom Oval Stamp Set to decorate the tag. 

What a fun way to make a special customized box! You don't need a special die set, just use what you have on hand and get creative!

Hang in There Card by Farhana Sarker

Hanging out with Newton

Today we're we're hanging out with Newton on this fun card by Farhana.

She started by stamping the cute kitty peeking out from the plant from our Newton's Hanging Basket Stamp Set. She colored the image using copic markers and trimmed it out using the coordinating Newton's Hanging Basket Die Set.  She then layered the image over a stitched circle that was cut out using our Circle Frames Die Set.

For her card, she created a background panel filled with leaves using our Trailing Leaves Stencil. She cut another stitched circle, this time from white and added the sentiment into the center. Then she layered the first circle over the top, adding a fold so that you can open it to reveal the message. 

This is such a fun and unique card layout! This card would be perfect for sending get well wishes or just to let someone know you are thinking of them.

Make Lemonade Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Lemonade, please!

Today we are featuring a delicious lemonade themed card by Ellen!

This fun card features our Jar Hot Foil Plate along with juicy lemons from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set. 

To create the jar part of the card Ellen used our Jar Hot Foil Plate and die. She used the hot foil plate to add silver foil onto a heat resistant transparency sheet. She then used the die from the set to cut out the shaker window from a blue inked background. She filled the jar shaker with lots of sequins and sparkle! 

Next, she stamped and colored the lemon pieces from our Lemon Twist Stamp Set. She colored them with alcohol markers, adding fun dotted details. She cut the lemons out using the coordinating Lemon Twist Die Set and arranged them around the jar. She also added a bit of sand along the bottom using our Land Borders Die Set to cut the curved edge. The whole thing is framed with a yellow scalloped edged panel that was cut out using our  Frames & Flags Die Set.  Last, she added the sentiment, embossed on white onto a yellow banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set.

Ellen decorated an envelope to match too! She used our Trailing Leaves Stencil to stencil yellow leaves onto the envelope flap and added the sentiment from the Lemon Twist Stamp Set. So fun!

Succulent Birthday Card by Guest Designer Brennan Keane

Today have another special guest post from Brennan Keane! Brennan has been created a few cards features for us this spring and today we are sharing a new card using our Succulent Garden Stamp Set! Keep reading on to view his lovely project today!

Hi everyone!
My name is Brennan and I am a 15 year old card maker. This is my third guest design for Newton’s Nook Designs and I’m so excited that I was asked back! For this card, I’ll be using the Succulent Garden Stamp Set and coordinating die set.

First, I stamped out five succulents and ran them through my big shot with their dies. Once they were cut out, I colored them in with some Copic markers. I used RV34 and RV17 for the center succulent, V15 and V12 for the two purple succulents, and lastly, BG13 and BG23 for the two teal succulents. After all of the coloring was done, I took a 4x4 inch card front and blended a light teal ink onto it. Once that had dried, I took a much darker teal ink and blended it through my new favorite stencil, Trailing Leaves!

Then I cut a circle out of the center of my panel. I don’t normally do this, but I decided to add some height for interest! I glued the succulents to the card front and popped that up on another 4x4 panel. I then stamped the “Hope your birthday doesn’t succ!” sentiment, from the same Succulent Garden Stamp Set, onto my card! I added a black border to the card front, and then glued that all to a card base to finish off the card.

I hope that you all enjoyed this card! It was super fun to make and a little different for me because it *technically* didn’t include any flowers! Also, a special thank you to Jennifer and Samantha for reaching out to see if I wanted to do another guest design (of course the answer was yes!).

Plant Filled Slimline Card by Maria Russell

Let Your Light Shine!

This amazing card by Maria combines our new Succulent Garden Stamp Set with our Trailing Leaves Stencil for a fabulous plant themed greeting! 

To start out, Maria created a fun slimline card base using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to cut out a fun scalloped border. She framed it with a piece of black cardstock to really make it pop. She also added fun little hand drawn dots and dashes along the edge using a white gel pen.

For her rainbow colored windows she inked up a rainbow background and then used our Trailing Leaves Stencil over the top with black ink. What a beautiful effect!  She cut out three circles from her inked panel using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. She also cut out three scalloped edge circles from white paper with our Circle Frames Die Set to frame each colorful circle shape. 

She then added several cute succulent plants to the top and bottom circles. These plants stamped using  our Succulent Garden Stamp Set and cut out using our Succulent Garden Die Set. 

The final detail is the "Let Your Light Shine" Sentiment across the center. To create this she used our Bright Sentiments Hot Foil Plates with bright blue foil on black cardstock. Then she cut the message out using the Banner Duo Die Set. What a perfect finishing touch!

Orchids Card by Samantha Mann

Beautiful Orchids! 

Do you love orchids? We always have an orchid in our house as they are one of our favorite flowers! Today we are sharing a gorgeous card by Samantha featuring our beautiful Orchids Stamp Set. She stamped the blooms twice so that she could combine them to create a lovely tall orchid. She colored the blooms in stunning shades of pink and used the coordinating Orchids Die Set to cut them out. 

For her card base she created a beautiful leafy background using our Trailing Leaves Stencil with distress inks. She layered the flowers on top and then added white paint splatters to the whole card front for a fun bit of texture. She also added a fun black and white washi tape up the side for a fun detail. 

For the card message she chose a sentiment from our Floral Roundabout Stamp Set and embossed it in white onto a banner that was die cut using our Banner Trio Die Set. Isn't it fun how this banner pops the sentiment up? So cool.
