2020 Cat Lovers Hop

This week is the 2020 Cat Lovers Hop! This hop is so fun and since the theme is CATS we knew we HAD to play along! To participate in this blog hop, you just have to create a project that features a cat theme  and upload it to the post on Her Peaceful Garden! Here's what I created:

We JUST had our Holiday release last Friday and so I wanted to share a card I created using our brand new A Kitten Chistmas Stamp Set. 

If you are new to us you might not know that our business is a husband and wife team (Jeff and I) and I am also the illustrator of all of our designs. Our company was named after our orange kitty, Newton, who passed away last fall. This spring we adopted two new adorable kittens, Toulouse and Marlowe, who are now just six months old. This new kitten stamp set is inspired by them! 

I also colored the kittens on this card on our new little ones! I colored the image of the kitten in the oversized Santa hat to look like Toulouse and the kitten playing with the dangling Christmas ornament to look like Marlowe. I used Inktense watercolor pencils to color them. 

Here is a close-up so you can see the coloring. 

After they were colored, I cut the images out with the coordinating A Kitten Christmas Die Set so they could layer onto my card. For the card background I created more ornaments for those kitties to chase using our Ornaments Stencil. I carefully masked off the ornaments so that I could ink them in different colors. I'll admit, it took me a couple of tries to get it to look how I wanted but I'm happy with how it turned out! 

Then I added a couple of snowy hills, using our Land Borders Die Set across the bottom. The sentiment "Meowy Christmas" is also from the new A Kitten Chistmas Stamp Set. 

I know it's going to be an interesting Christmas this year with these two mischievous little ones around! I hope you enjoyed this project today! I had so much fun making it!

Here's what I created:

If you're like me, I never have enough birthday cards on hand so when I do have time to create that's what I usually like to make! For this card I grabbed the cute image of the kitty with the trio of balloons from our Newton's Birthday Balloons Stamp Set. I kept the coloring really simple and didn't do any shading, just added flat colors using copic markers to make a quick and easy card. 

For the background I used our Bokeh Stencil Set to create a cool two color pattern. If you haven't used these fun  stencil sets yet, they are so fun to use! The unique Stencil Sets include two pieces and each piece has an etching of the other layer so you can easily line up the layers and create two color patterns. For this card I used pink and yellow.

2018 Cat Lovers Hop

This week is the 2018 Cat Lovers Hop! This hop is so fun and since the theme is CATS we knew we HAD to play along! Here's what I created:

We JUST had our Holiday release last Friday and so I wanted to share a card I created using our brand new Caroling Newton Stamp Set. This set has stolen my heart with the trio of cute little caroling kitties and it's SO fun to color! For this card I stamped the image onto watercolor paper and I colored the kitties using Zig Watercolor Markers. It's so fun to try making different shading and patterns on the kitties! Then I cut out the image using the coordinating Caroling Newton Die Set. The die even cuts out the little spaces between their heads!  

Once the kitties were ready to go I needed to make a scene for them. I started with a light blue background and inked those music notes onto it using our new Music Stencil with distress ink. Then I cut out a snowy hill using the stitched curve from our Land Borders Die Set. I added in a little green tree using the new Forest Scene Builder Die Set too. Then I finished it off by embossing the "meow to the world" sentiment onto a little black banner that was cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set.  The finishing touch was a bit of twine across the snowy bottom and then I mounted it to a darker blue card base.

This week is the 3rd Annual Cat Lovers Hop! This hop is so fun and since the theme is CATS we knew we HAD to play along! Here's what I created:

I've been trying to get a better stash of birthday cards so today I created one using our Newton Rides West Stamp Set. This Western theme on this set is perfect for creating cards for girls and guys both but today I decided to create a more feminine card using pinks! I started out by stamping the image of the kitty in the boot and colored a pink cowboy (or cowgirl) boot using zig clean color watercolor markers. I also colored a lime green cactus image and cut both of them out using the coordinating Newton Rides West Die Set. I also created a cute little scene for the kitty using our Land Borders Die Set to create some grass and a hill too! This die set is a MUST HAVE for creating scenes. I use it all the time! 

I added the "WANTED" and "for celebrating another birthday" sentiments above the hill, also from the Newton Rides West Stamp Set. If you didn't need a birthday card you could use the "for being awesome" sentiment that's also included in this set.

To finish off the card I mounted it on some pink gingham paper and then on a pink cardstock panel and added a bit of twine for a finishing touch! I love how this turned out!

Cat Lovers Hop!

This week was the Cat Lovers Hop! I really wanted to post a card earlier but it's been a bit crazy here with our NEW holiday release this week! So I'm sneaking one in late today! There's still one more day to play along! To participate in this blog hop, you just have to create a project that features a cat and upload it to the post on Her Peaceful Garden! You totally should play along if you can since there are some really awesome sponsors and prizes, including one from us at Newton's Nook Designs! 

Here's what I created:

I don't know about you but this time of year feels like the perfect time to curl up and read! So I pulled out my Newton's Book Club stamp set to create this fun card. It's hard to choose my favorite image from this set but I settled on the cute kitty reading a book! I love those glasses! I stamped him onto watercolor paper with waterproof ink and colored him with inktense colored pencils and a waterbrush. I added the "Curl up with a good book" sentiment above him, also from the Newton's Book Club stamp set and then started on the card base.

I decided to use a fun teal and orange combo for colors and used a teal card base, adding a layer of plaid pattern paper and some polka dot papers too. Then I added strip of teal chevron washi tape and some fun colored dots. When I added the image to the card the square seemed too "square" so I used a corner rounder on two corners to give it a little more interest!

This card would be perfect for our current inky paws challenge too! The theme is Cozy Plaids and it's open until Next Friday, Nov. 4 if you want to play along! You can find details here!
