Today we have our first post by our July Guest Designer, Kay Demonbren! Whether she is creating an amazing scene or layering bright colors and creative layouts, her cards are so creative and fun! We are excited to have her as our guest this month and can't wait to to share what she creates! Check back each Monday to see them! Keep reading to find out more about her today and to check out her first project below.
Newton's Nook Designs Guest Designer, Kay Demonbren
Hello, everyone, I am beyond thrilled to be the July 2020 Guest Designer for Newton’s Nook Designs!

My name is Kay Demonbren, and I live in upstate South Carolina with my husband, teenager, five cats, and one very chilled out dog.

I’ve always loved “making stuff”, and there are too many hobbies to mention that I’ve dabbled in. I’ve been making cards for around thirteen years. I also currently enjoy sewing and quilting, puttering in my fledgling indoor garden, as well as cooking, baking, and home canning all sorts of things (makes me feel a bit like a mad scientist-lol!)

I look forward to hearing from you, and sharing my creations with you all!

You can find me on Instagram: @kaydemonbren8 and on my blog A Splash of Color!

Hi everyone! I am excited to share first card as the Newton's Nook Designs Guest Designer for July!

I decided to start with the adorable and classic Newton's Happy Mail Stamp Set, and the Evergreens Stencil. Don't feel like you need to save this lovely stencil for winter themed cards; they make perfectly lovely spring and summer trees, too!

Sending Happy Mail Card by July Guest Designer Kay Demonbren | Newtons Happy Mail Stamp Set and Evergreens Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

The first thing I did was mask off the bottom portion of my card panel, and place my trees in the desired location. You can use as much or as little of the trees as you wish for the desired effect. I masked off the largest bottom portion of the stencil to make the trees appear farther away. The trees were stenciled with a blended combination of Distress Oxide inks in: Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, and Forest Moss. Afterwards, I didn't care for the white spaces left, so I colored those in with a Copic marker.

I then did a very simple background with Copics on the lower portion of my card panel. Dabs, swipes, and flicks, that's all there is to this. (Trust me, I cannot draw.) I colored and cut out the precious kitty hiding in the mailbox, and attached him to the front panel in his little place of honor.

Finally, I created the sky by blending Distress Oxides in Squeezed Lemonade, Worn Lipstick, Shaded Lilac, and Stormy Sky.

Thanks so much for sharing your time with me, and I look forward to sharing another card with you next week!

-Kay

If Friends Were Flowers Card by Larissa Heskett

If Friends Were Flowers Card by Larissa Heskett | Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set, Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set, Flower Trio Die Set, Monarchs Stamp Set and Newton's Flower Garden Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

If Friends were Flowers...

Sometimes it's fun to create a card using almost exclusively die cuts! That is what Larissa is sharing today! She started out by creating a long skinny card featuring our new slimline die sets. She used our new Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to cut the scalloped panel in the back, cut from woodgrain paper and the panel in the front with the three portholes, cut from word patterned paper. In between those two layers she added a stitched frame that was cut out using our Slimline Frames & Windows Die Set.

Note: our popular new Slimline Die Sets are currently out of stock but we will have more in soon. If you'd like to be notified when they are back in stock, you can just enter your email on the Slimline Frames and Portholes or the Slimline Frames and Windows product page.

To add some flowers to her card, she used our Flower Trio Die Set to cut flowers and leaves out of flocking sheets. The little glittery butterflies were stamped using our Monarchs Stamp Set and cut out with the coordinating Monarchs Die Set.

She added a gem in the flower centers and glitter to the butterflies for bits of sparkle:

She added the sentiment into the center circle, stamped from our Newton's Flower Garden Stamp Set:

Deepest Wishes of Thanks Card by Samantha Mann

Deepest Wishes of Thanks Card by Samantha Mann | Scuba Newton Stamp Set and Hills & Grass Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Deepest Thanks!

This underwater card by Samantha is such a cute and clever way to say thank you! She features the image of the scuba diving kitty from our Scuba Newton Stamp Set. She stamped the kitty along with some fish and coral from the set and colored them with gorgeous colors! The shading on that kitty image is gorgeous! She cut all the images out using the Scuba Newton Die Set. For the gorgeous underwater background she used our Hills & Grass Stencil with distress inks. This stencil was designed to create hills but just by changing the colors used to blues, it works perfectly for soft layers of water! What a great idea to stretch your supplies! To finish off the card, she embossed the sentiment "deepest wishes of thanks" with white embossing powder on black cardstock and hand cut around it.

Here is a close up so you can see her gorgeous coloring. She also added white gel pen and glossy details:
