Summer and Seashells Card Set!

Today we are sharing these beautiful beachy watercolored cards by Rosie!

Hi again! I am kicking off some summer crafting with this sweet set of seashell cards. I focused on using the Seashell Roundabout Stamp Set. I knew right away I wanted to emboss and watercolor this stamp. I gold or silver heat embossed on watercolor paper six times. I wasn't exactly sure how the water coloring would go, so I made lots of panels in case I messed something. I centered the stamp at the middle top third of the watercolor panel.

 

Then I picked some Tombow Dual Brush Markers in pastels. I choose a light blue, lavender, pink, coral, tan, mint, orange and yellow. I also picked some coordinating cardstocks in the same color pallet. I did a couple different techniques for the watercolor. 

First, I used the marker direct to paper and colored half the shell. Then I went in with a wet brush and moved the color around. That worked out nicely and I repeated with a couple different color ways. 

 

Then I tried coloring parts of the shell and using a larger brush I wet the shell, not really paying attention to the lines in each shell. Less precise painting and more loose water. Then I scribbled patches of ink over shells and negative space. I used less colors here and was careful with the orange and lavender being too close to each other.

Then I used a fine mist sprayer and sprayed from a distance. I had to spray a few times until I had some water pooling in the wells of the embossing. I let that air dry. I really like how flowy and organic the watercolor looked here but it dried back very light. While the paper was still cold (not pooling wet) , I went back and added some darker accents to the shells for some dimension. Because the paper was a little damp, the extra color just blended in nicely. I let all the panels dry overnight before turning them into cards. 

For the cards, I used Circle Frames to cut out the embossed image or I die cut circles from the colored cardstock to layer. I trimmed and matted some panels down too. I also used every sentiment in the stamp set. I heat embossed on the coordinating cardstock or directly on the panel. The rest was easy assembly! I ended up liking all my watercolor panels and turned them all into cards. I think this would make a great gift-giving set.
