'ello Rainbow Card by Holly Endress

'ello Rainbow Card by Holly Endress | Newton Dreams of London Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Rainbows in London!

This beautiful rainbow card by Holly will brighten your day! She created a gorgeous rainbow background for her card using distress inks. Then she colored images from our Newton Dreams of London stamp set using only shades of grey to create a lovely contrast to the colorful background! She added the images to her card, trimming them out with the coordinating Newton Dreams of London Die Set. This is such a fun idea! To finish off her card she added the simple "ello" stamped onto a little white banner and some fun clear sequins! This card is so cheerful! It feels like a rainbow after a rainy day!

Thank you, Holly, for inspiring us today! You can find more of Holly's beautiful creations and say hello to her over at her blog, Hollybeary Creations!

A Little Birdie Told Me Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen

Hello hello!!
I am so sad that today is my last post as guest designer for Newton's Nook.  This month has been so fun!  I have loved working with their wonderful products and showcasing some awesome designs!  I want to sincerely thank Jennifer for the invitation!  And a huge thank you to Samantha and the wonderful Newton's Nook design team for their warm welcome this month!  Their comments, along with all of the readers comments have been so inspiring and uplifting!  This is a wonderful community, and I'm so thankful to be a part of it!!
A Little Birdie Told Me Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen | Newton's Birthday Flutter Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

So for my final card, I created something that I think everyone enjoys...a Shaker Card!
This super cute Newton's Birthday Flutter set is just so fun to use!  I love these little birdies and that sassy kitty is just a hoot!  Since I've featured my two oldest kitties on my previous cards, I decided to color this sweet one up like my youngest, Ezio.  He is probably the one that would most likely catch a bird, so it felt fitting.  I mean, he hunts down flies and moths...and LOVES to watch the birds from the window.  But on a card is about the only chance he'll ever get to actually catch one :)

I really wanted it to look like those birdies were flying around in that shaker window, so I strung them up on some sparkly string.  I left the string a little loose when I adhered my frame.  They don't move quite as much as I wanted, but they're still cute!

The background of the shaker window was blended into a pretty, soft pink/yellow sunset to go along with the color challenge here at Newton's Nook this month.  I also die cut and inked up some grass in a soft mint color.

Then I filled that shaker window!  I mixed all kinds of fun little sequin type elements in there!  Maybe over stuffed it a bit...I always seem to do that.  It never looks like enough when I'm pulling everything together but as soon as it goes into the shaker, it's bursting the seams...oh well!  Move fun bits to shake!

A Little Birdie Told Me Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen | Newton's Birthday Flutter Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook
To kick this card up just a tiny notch, I decided to add a slider in there.  Now I wanted my little Ezio kitty to slid as well...but that was going to be a bit too difficult to incorporate.  So I just settled for a little slide out sentiment along the bottom of the shaker panel. It's nice and hidden, but gives that perfect finish to the whole fun scene!

Everything was layered up very simply with just some white and black cardstock and mounted onto a card base!

Thank again for your wonderful comments this month!  I have enjoyed every second of being guest designer!  Until next time!

<3  Emily

Cupcake Inspirations 396 - CAT Themed Challenge!

Have you heard of the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge? For each challenge they post a YUMMY cupcake photo and color combo for inspiration! Everybody likes cupcakes, right?

The current challenge going up today features CAT cupcakes and the theme is to use a cat in your project!

We're sponsoring this challenge so If you head over to their blog and play along you have a chance to win a $25 store credit to our store at newtonsnookdesigns.com! How awesome is that?

Of course I had to play along -- here's the card I created. Although the challenge didn't specifiy that you needed to use cupcakes I couldn't resist using an image from our newest cat themed set,  Newton Loves Cake since it features BOTH a cat and a cupcake! How perfect is that?! I colored the kitty with copic markers and trimmed out the image using the coordinating Newton Loves Cake Die Set. To create the card,  I cut out a couple of curvy hills using patterned paper and our Land Borders Die Set and added them to a white background. I then stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment, also from the Newton Loves Cake stamp set above the hills.

I decided I wanted to add in the "to my favorite cat lady" sentiment too so I cut a little banner out of yellow cardstock to add it to the card.  Then I finished it off with some colored sequins!

Birthday Tags by Ellen Haxelmans

Birthday Tags with Cat by Ellen Haxelmans | Newton Loves Cake Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Birthdays are for Cake & Cats!

Love Birthdays? Love Cake? Love Cats? Today's projects by Ellen have all three of these favorites! She created the these charming tags using images from our new Newton Loves Cake stamp set! She stamped the images of that mischievous kitty with his cake and trimmed them out using the coordinating Newton Loves Cake Die Set. Then she colored the cakes with lovely shades of purple and, of course, chocolate frosting!

I love the details she added like the gloss on the frosting the extra white polka dots on the cupcake wrapper!

Have you ever wondered how to add stripes to your cats? She's included a tip on how she does it (see photo above). You just draw lines, each getting a bit shorter to form a little triangle! How easy is that? And it adds a special bit of detail too! Thanks, Ellen, for sharing this tip!

I'm Here for You Card by Samantha Mann | Beautiful Blossoms Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Soft and Sweet!

WOW! This card card by Samantha is so lovely! She created such a subtle and beautiful layout using the flower images from the Beautiful Blossoms stamp set to create a soft gray border of flowers around the edge of the card. For the center heart image, she used two hearts that she die cut using the Darling Hearts Die set and folded in half. The lovely colors on the heart were created by painting with acrylic paints! What a gorgeous card!

Interactive Spinning Dream Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen

Hello hello!!
I have a super fun card to share with you today!  It speaks a lot towards my current mood and what I'm dreaming of.
Dreaming Kitty Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen | Aloha Newton & Newton's Daydream stamp sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook
I just absolutely adored the Aloha Newton stamp set ...so I had to use the whole thing!  But fitting that many amazing stamps onto one card front can be a bit challenging.  So I made a spinning wheel card!!  Honestly, this is my first time ever making a card like this!  But once all the nitty gritty details were worked out, it was so quick and easy!!  The hardest part was getting the dream bubble the right size to fit enough of the image so you know what it is, but also fit 4 of them on my little wheel.

I started with the dream bubble from the Newton's Daydream stamp set, but that was just a little too big.  So I worked around with an oval die cut 'til I got it just right.  Then figured out where each bubble would land on my wheel and using a mask so I didn't get parts of the images where I didn't want them, stamped everything through the opening.
Dreaming Kitty Card by February Guest Designer Emily Lauritzen | Aloha Newton & Newton's Daydream stamp sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook
Now in order to get this many large images on this wheel, I had to make it kind of large.  So it ended up being a 4.25 inch circle, which filled a good portion of my card.  But I knew it would give me a nice space to create my little dream scene with Newton.  And I kind of like that the edges hang out a little on each side in addition to the larger opening on the right side.  It helps to highlight a little more that it spins.

I created a little cloud mask and used my Prismacolor pencils to add some dark stormy looking clouds, making sure to try and highlight the dream bubble opening above my sweet kitty.

Then I set to coloring my images!  I used the same colors throughout each image so the whole card has a nice flow to it.  And I tried to blend out around each image so there wasn't any super harsh lines as you spin the wheel.

From the images above, there is a beach scene with a sunset!  Of course!  You can't go to Hawaii without enjoying the gorgeous sunsets!  Then we have my kitty rolling in a bed of flowers!

Here we have my kitty playing an Ukulele with the sun setting behind her.

And of course, my favorite thing to do in Hawaii...Nap on the beach!
I started this card while it was dark and stormy here in Seattle and it's been a week where all I want to do is go back to Hawaii.  But I'll have to just enjoy it through my cards for now.  And let my little Cloud kitty share my dreams.

To finish off the card, I used a few little sentiments from the Aloha Newton stamp set and the Newton's Daydream stamp set and repeatedly stamped it tone on tone to some blue cardstock.  Then printed off my sentiment onto some vellum and wrapped it around the front of the card.  And randomly scattered a few Nuvo Drops for some shine, along with some sparkle to the flowers.

This card turned out so awesome!  I love it so much!

I hope all of your dreams come true!!  Thanks so much for visiting!!
