Happy Halloween Cards by Newton's Nook Designs

Halloween Shaker Card using Boo Crew by Newton's Nook Designs

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone is having a fun Halloween filled with treats today! I'm sharing 3 fun Halloween cards today that I haven't had a chance to post yet using Boo Crew and Magical Dreams  (by the way - both these sets are on sale for $9.99 - only until friday  - so make sure to head over to www.newtonsnookdesigns.com and grab them up!)

The first one is a shaker card. If you haven't ever tried a shaker card you can learn how to make one using my shaker card tutorial post here.  For this shaker I filled it with spider sequins and orange micro beads! Isn't it fun? Then, of course I had to add on the cute owl from the Boo Crew Stamp set!

Next up, I tried out some punch art. For this card, I used a circle and a rounded rectangle punch to make the cauldron, then I cut the frog off from the mushroom in the Magical Dreams stamp set and added him onto the top. I also stamped the flames from the dragon in the Magical Dreams set coming out of the cauldron.

Here is a close-up. I also added on some glitter with copic spica glitter pens:

Here is one last fun Halloween Card - For this one I used various oval punches to create a pumpkin patch for that cute ghost kitty from Boo Crew to hang out in.

Here's a close-up -- I also used the "meooooow" on a little flag that I attached with some twine! I love how this turned out!!

Happy Howl-idays Card

Happy Howl-idays Dog Christmas Card by Newton's Nook Designs

Puppy Love for Christmas

When I was designing the stamps for this release I had the idea to create a set with dogs just for Christmas so I created Canine Christmas. Although I don't have a dog I do have a lot of friends who do and I thought it would be fun to be able to make cards for them. The Basset Hound on this card was inspired by my friend Lisa who has the sweetest Basset Hounds! Since I've had the opportunity to get to know them a little bit, I thought it would be fun to include a cute Basset on this set! This guy's for you, Lisa!

This set also offers a variety of other dogs too -- a Lab, a Chihuahua, and a couple Teriers!

Penny Slider Card tutorial

Penny Slider Card tutorial - Newton's Nook Designs

I've haven't shared a tutorial in awhile so thought it would be fun to do one this week! Have you ever made a slider card? If you've always wanted to know how then make sure to read this tutorial! I created this card using the wagon and leaves stamps from the Wagon of Wishes Stamp set!

Here's what you need:

  • Stamps
  • Various Paper
  • Ink & coloring supplies
  • Foam mounting circles
  • Cutting knife and ruler
  • Scissors
  • Two pennies

Step One: Stamp & color image.  You can choose any type of stamp to create this card but we'd love it if you used one of our images from the Wagon of Wishes stamp set which is now for sale at newtonsnookdesigns.com. For my card I stamped the wagon and the leaves in black colored them with Copic Markers.

Step Two: Create your curve.  You could make your wagon go straight but if you'd like it to curve or roll along a hill like I did, then you need to create a template. I just cut a piece of card stock that was as wide as my card (5 1/2" wide) and then used a scissor to create a curve I liked. Note: you won't actually use this piece on your card so you can make it from a piece of scrap paper or card stock.

Then I cut the piece of card stock that I will be using on my card. This one is 5 1/2" wide. Then, use a ruler and measure in about 1 inch from each side and mark it.

Penny Slider Card tutorial - Newton's Nook Designs - step 2

Now- use your template to trace your curve between those two lines.  This will be your path for your wagon. Move your curve up about 1/2" and draw it again.

Step Three:Use your cutting knife to cut out the shape between the two lines. It should be around a 1/2" tall (make sure that your penny is taller than the slot you created)

Step Four: Stick a foam dot to between the two pennies to create a sandwich:

Step Five: Insert your penny sandwich into the slot you created.
Penny Slider Card tutorial - Newton's Nook Designs - step 5

Then adhere your image on top of the penny. If you move your cardstock, your image should slide back and forth!

That's all there is to it -- Finish your card any way you'd like! Make sure you attach your slider part to the card with some dimensional dots so it has room to slide around.  Here's my finished card:

I stamped a message on white cardstock, lining it up with the slot so you can see it behind the wagon.

Here's a little video so you can see how it moves!

Let me know if you try a penny slider card - I'd love to see what you made!

Today I'm sharing a super cute scrapbook page by Design Team Member Samantha Mann!  Samantha used two of our new Holiday sets on this scrapbook page - the Stockings and "merry" are from the Holiday Wishes set and the Kitty is from Newton's Holiday Mischief. It's so cute how the kitty with the milk and cookies matches the cookies for Santa in her photos!

Jingle Bells!

Jingle Bells Card using Holiday Wishes Stamps by Newton's Nook Designs

Jingle Bell time!

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! We did out Halloween decorating - but today and then I made some Christmas cards- I know, it's crazy, but Christmas will be just around the corner! Today I wanted to share another card using the Holiday Wishes Stamp set. Did you know the big scripty words are hand drawn by me? I write the words over a few times until I get them just the way I like them!

This set is so much fun to use. You can make cards fairly quick and easy - just add a sentiment of your choice and then embellish!  For this card I made a row of "flags" and added some jingle bells on it (to match the sentiment). This card was really easy to make... although I'd leave off the bells if sending it in the mail, it would be great to add onto a holiday gift!
