Treat Yo' Self!

Today Tatiana is celebrating summer with a duo of kitties enjoying frozen summer treats!

For this tasty card she stamped the two kitties with their frozen treats from our Newton’s Summer Treats Stamp Set. She colored the kitties using alcohol markers in soft neutral colors and the treats in fun summer pastels. She also added white accent details with a white gel pen. The kitties were cut out using the coordinating Newton’s Summer Treats Die Set. She then cut out two stitched rectangles using our A7 Frames & Banners Die Set and layered a kitty onto each one. The sentiments, "It's Summer" and "Treat Yo'Self" were also stamped using the Newton’s Summer Treats Stamp Set and added to the panels.

Happy Birthday Butterflies Card by Zsofia Molnar | Butterflies Stencil Set, Frames & Flags Die Set, Birthday Essentials Stamp Set and Birdhouse Greetings Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Birthday Butterflies!

Today we are sharing a gorgeous birthday wish by Zsofia, filled with butterflies!

For this card she started by creating that beautiful background using our Butterflies Stencil Set. This set includes two layers so she created the the bold butterfly bodies with the lighter ink shades and then layered on the butterfly details with the second layer and darker inks. So lovely!  She also added tiny black paint spatters for added texture. When all the inking was done she used our Frames & Flags Die Set to cut out the panel.

To make this fun pattern into a birthday card she stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment in black using our Birthday Essentials Stamp Set. Then she added a second message from our Birdhouse Greetings Stamp Set, embossing it in white onto a small navy blue rectangle. She also added shiny clear embellishment dots to the butterfly centers for an added detail.

Succulent Birthday Card by Guest Designer Brennan Keane

Today have another special guest post from Brennan Keane! Brennan has been created a few cards features for us this spring and today we are sharing a new card using our Succulent Garden Stamp Set! Keep reading on to view his lovely project today!

Newton's Nook Designs Special Guest Post

Hi everyone!
My name is Brennan and I am a 15 year old card maker. This is my third guest design for Newton’s Nook Designs and I’m so excited that I was asked back! For this card, I’ll be using the Succulent Garden Stamp Set and coordinating die set.

Succulent Birthday Card by Guest Designer Brennan Keane | Succulent Garden Stamp Set and Trailing Leaves Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

First, I stamped out five succulents and ran them through my big shot with their dies. Once they were cut out, I colored them in with some Copic markers. I used RV34 and RV17 for the center succulent, V15 and V12 for the two purple succulents, and lastly, BG13 and BG23 for the two teal succulents. After all of the coloring was done, I took a 4x4 inch card front and blended a light teal ink onto it. Once that had dried, I took a much darker teal ink and blended it through my new favorite stencil, Trailing Leaves!

Then I cut a circle out of the center of my panel. I don’t normally do this, but I decided to add some height for interest! I glued the succulents to the card front and popped that up on another 4x4 panel. I then stamped the “Hope your birthday doesn’t succ!” sentiment, from the same Succulent Garden Stamp Set, onto my card! I added a black border to the card front, and then glued that all to a card base to finish off the card.

I hope that you all enjoyed this card! It was super fun to make and a little different for me because it *technically* didn’t include any flowers! Also, a special thank you to Jennifer and Samantha for reaching out to see if I wanted to do another guest design (of course the answer was yes!).

Have a nice rest of your day everyone and happy crafting!

Trio of Inky Seashell Cards by Amanda Wilcox

Trio of Inky Seashell Cards by Amanda Wilcox | Seashell Roundabout Stamp Set, Circle Frames Die Set, Banner Trio Die Set, Frames & Flags Die Set and Summertime Paper Pad by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Celebrate Summer!

Today we are sharing a trio of inky summer cards by Amanda that are perfect for celebrating summer moments!

To create this fun trio she started with watercolor paper and Tombow markers and created some ink smooshed backgrounds in three different color combinations. Sometimes it's just fun to play around and make inky backgrounds, right!?

Next, she stamped the big circle image from our Seashell Roundabout Stamp Set using VersaFine Black ink over each inky background. She used our Circle Frames Die Set to cut the images out into scalloped circle shapes. Then she used pages from our Summertime Paper Pad to create pretty patterned background that coordinated with the colors on each circle. She cut the papers out using our Frames & Flags Die Set to give them the scalloped edges. Then, she added messages to each card using sentiments from the Seashell Roundabout Stamp Set, embossed in white onto black banners that were cut out using our  Banner Trio Die Set. A bit of sheer ribbon and a few black enamel dots finish off each card.

Here are individual photos of each card so you can see them up close.

Let Your Light Shine!

This amazing card by Maria combines our new Succulent Garden Stamp Set with our Trailing Leaves Stencil for a fabulous plant themed greeting!

To start out, Maria created a fun slimline card base using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set to cut out a fun scalloped border. She framed it with a piece of black cardstock to really make it pop. She also added fun little hand drawn dots and dashes along the edge using a white gel pen.

For her rainbow colored windows she inked up a rainbow background and then used our Trailing Leaves Stencil over the top with black ink. What a beautiful effect!  She cut out three circles from her inked panel using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. She also cut out three scalloped edge circles from white paper with our Circle Frames Die Set to frame each colorful circle shape.

Meet Saffron!

We have a NEW KITTY!

Hello! Jen here today and I'm excited to reveal the secret that has been scampering around NND Headquarters! We are excited to share that we have adopted a sweet kitty girl and named her Saffron!

We adopted Saffron a little bit ago but wanted to give her and Marlowe a bit of time to get to know each other before we spread the news.

I haven't talked about this before but I feel like now is the time to explain a bit.

The Full Story
You might remember when we adopted Marlowe as a kitten along with his brother, Toulouse. Sadly, only two years later, we had the heartbreak of losing Toulouse last summer when he died from complications of the FeLV disease. This was heartbreaking for us and for Marlowe, who missed having a feline companion to play with.

Unfortunately, Marlowe had a hard time adjusting to being an only kitty and it eventually became clear that he really needed another feline companion to chase and play with. The problem was, although he is currently healthy otherwise,  Marlowe also has FeLV. Because this virus is contagious to other kitties we needed to find another cat who also already had FeLV.

What is FeLV?
FeLV stands for Feline Leukemia Virus. About 2-3% percent of cats have this virus and it is likely that Marlowe was born with it since he and his brother were both diagnosed. Sadly, there is no cure and the prognosis for cats with this diseases is a shortened lifespan. It could be as short as sweet Toulouse, who died at the age of two, but we are hopeful to hear of cases where cats do live longer lives despite the virus.

For this reason we initially hesitated getting another kitty with the disease because we knew that meant we would be getting another kitty who might have a very short life. However, after some time we decided that it would be best for Marlowe to have a playmate and that if we understood the risks going into it, it would be a bit easier to accept if the pet had a shorter life.

Once we decided to adopt a friend for Marlowe, it did take some time to find an available cat who had FeLV. Eventually, after months of searching local adoption and foster sites we came across Saffron! We fell in love with her sweet demeanor and playfulness right away.

For Marlowe, it was a bit of a slower process. We took our time introducing the two kitties and kept Saffron separate from Marlowe for awhile. But, with some patience, they are now both freely interacting in our home and for the most part they are getting along quite nicely.

Here's even a photo from a rare moment of them together on the couch:

That's the long story... but the short of it is that we absolutely adore our sweet new girl, Saffron. She is packed full of energy and loves to chase toys and run about the house! She's very talkative too and often meows for more attention. We hope with a little more time that the two of them will be even better friends!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned to our Newton's Nook Designs instagram account, where you will definitely find updates and photos of both kitties in the future!

Next, she used the adorable image of the jeep with a surfboard in the back from our Beach Bound Stamp Set. She colored the image in bright summer colors and used the Beach Bound Die Set to cut it out.

She layered the jeep over a trio of banners that were cut out using our Frames & Flags Die Set. Two of the banners were cut out using pretty prints from our Summertime Paper Pad. The third banner was cut out from black cardstock and she embossed the sentiment "Ridin' into another year!" onto it. This would be great for sending as a summer birthday, or just as a happy summer hello!
